    Hi all,

I have an iPhone 4 that I no longer use. I plan on giving it to a friend because she broke hers.

I haven't used this phone in nearly a year and I turned it on today having it ask me for a passcode. I have tried all the passcodes that I could think of that I may or may not have used and I am now locked out of the phone for 60 minutes. I have tried syncing it up with my laptop but it doesn't register through the USB port.

Is there any advise anyone could give me or should I just go to an Apple store?

    Thank you.

    You need to restore it.
If the USB port doesn't work you will not be able to.

AJ, even if the OP restores the phone, won't iTunes ask him to unlock the phone first with the 4 digit pin code?

And if he goes to Apple they aren't going to help him with the code, right?

The passcode is not like the icloud lock.
You can dfu restore to get rid of the passcode.
Now if it's icloud locked then there's nothing you can do about it.

It used to sync on the old laptop I was using but that one won't turn on anymore.

You can still restore it using any up to date version of iTunes on any machine. Just put the device into DFU mode and restore it.

    Check Find my iPhone,

If it shows up then change the pin code to a new one and when it connects to the internet again then it should update the pin code and you can get in.

With the device connected to a computer, press and hold both buttons for exactly ten seconds. Then release the power button while still holding the home button for an additional 15 seconds. If done correctly, iTunes will pop up and state that it has detected an iOS device in recovery mode. It may take you a few attempts to get it into DFU mode.
