iPhone 4 w/ iOS 4.1..... jailbreak?

I finally got lucky and found myself a device running under iOS 7. It's a nice little hunk of nostalgia.

Question 1 (pretty sure I know the answer but worth checking): Is it possible to update to any version of iOS 5 or 6? Or am I stuck with 4 or 7?

Question 2: If I'm staying on 4.1, what tool can I use to jailbreak? I just tried Limera1n and it didn't work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
 
iOS 7.1.2 is the latest firmware you can update to and you can jailbreak with Pangu.

If you want to stay on 4.1 you'll need to find redsn0w.

The 4 runs like a dog on iOS 7 so I'm trying to avoid that.

I'll have to dig around and see if I can't find a working redsn0w file. Didn't have any luck earlier.
 
Redsn0w isn't working for me. Everything is recognized and the jailbreak starts when the phone is in DFU mode but I get an "exploit failed" message every time.

Edit: Looks like Greenpois0n is the tool I need but all links to download I can find are dead.

Did you try selecting the ios 4.1 ipsw before trying to jailbreak?

Note: I recommend using iFaith or redsn0w to dump the SHSH blobs so you can restore to ios 4.1 if you need to

Yes. Was able to download and select the 4.1 firmware before clicking jailbreak. Same results.

I also get the same error when attempting to get the SHSH blobs. Exploit failed.
 
Wow! Thanks!

They're all showing they are for jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 though. I tried it anyway and sure enough, it failed. I tried modifying the search on those sites and had no luck. :(

Can you check if cydia has any of your SHSH blobs? use ifaith or tinyumbrella (might need an older version of tiny umbrella)

it is possible that there are software issues and you need a clean restore to fix them
 
Hi im new here :) nice forum you have here ! My question is i have a iphone 4 5.1.1 locked with orange and want to go to ios 7. It seams only Pangu is the tool for iphone 4 But i read a lot after jailbreak they have (no service) no internet connection. Also I don't really understand don't i need an ipsw ? to jailbreak the phone ? I only read to backup the phone with itunes. No restore hint .. as we did in the past with redsnow, only pangu.

So your question is how you would go from 5.1.1 to iOS 7? Simply restore in iTunes. iOS 7.1.2 is the highest available to the iPhone 4.

What is the baseband version of your iPhone 4? There is a slight possibility it is software unlocked via ultrasn0w

Go to settings -> general -> about

What is the modem firmware version?

01.59.00 is my bb. With what tool should I jailbreake ?

it is most likely software unlocked with ultrasn0w

you have to make sure to upgrade/restore with a no baseband upgrade ipsw (I don't even think there were any software updated out there to create custom ipsw for iOS 7)

If that is the case, you may just have to stay at the firmware version to keep the software unlock
