I don't want to sound like a troll but given how the panel fills up with icons, how useful is wallpaper anyways.

I like an uncluttered screen where I can see the images better.

Am I the only one who's underwhelmed by iOS4's wallpaper ability?

Edit btw, some of those images are awesome :D

Even worse are the images that make it difficult to see your icons.

You can always dim the whole wallpaper so no matter how complex it is your icons will always pop.

Now THAT is an idea I'll definitely put to good use. I, myself, was rather skeptical of busy or colorful images that would clash with the apps and their respective designs, but dimming the background image is just the answer. Thanks for the brilliant input!

you can have different wallpapers for the unlock screen and the home screen. so for the unlock screen i use a nice picture and for the home screen i use something simple so that it doesn't interfere with the icons.

I like the way you think.

Pretty amazing shot of two F-15's flying nearby shuttle Atlantis taking off.

Agreed, but the recent change with iOS allows them to be on all the time and I found them to interfere with the icons, given that the panels are usually pretty much filled up.
You can set up an iPhone with sparse icons on the main page..you can put just one icon on the first page if you'd like...
There's no requirement that the iPhone has to have 16 icons on each page...
The desktop wallpaper feature is awesome I think. I love having a wallpaper on my iPad.

some beautiful wallpapers in here.

seeing the size of the wallpapers, its going to be funny seeing screenshots from the OS

And here's a custom one I made. Even if you prefer black, why not try my new "Glowing Black" background?

It's got slight grey glow in the center. I'm betting it will look wonderful on the new iPhone's screen.

does anyone know what size the earth wallpaper should be to fit the center of the iphoen lock screen ? Im running 4.0 GM and the preinstalled earth seems to be bigger than in 3.0 firmware.

I have these 2 that I made back when they announced 4.0 but they're not high resolution.

I like the one to the right more. The one to the left looks really faded.

Then fix them, it's not called the "iPhone 4 Wallpaper Thread" for nuthin'!

Sorry, this post is a little off topic.

What software do people make these with?

I use GIMP (kind of like a free version of photoshop) but I didn't make the entire thing. I found the wood background online and made it lighter and to make the shelves GIMP has a wood paint brush so I used that and added a shadow effect. And on the one with the iPhone in the background, it's just the "Made for iPhone" logo made a little transparent with a shadow effect. So basically I just took different things and put them together and added effects.

But hey, aren't you happy to know that you can trust Dropbox with your files you don't want people to see? :D

Haha. I guess but i don't really need to worry about that. The only reason I use Dropbox is to easily transfer files from one computer to another or if I do something for school I can upload it to Dropbox just incase I forget it.

excellent!

great start guys... we're actually ramping up to also support iPhone 4 wallpapers soon, so I'll try to swing by and post some for you guys!
