I bought an iPhone off Craigslist not knowing it was jailbroken. The kid I brought it from never said anything about it. I used it for a little over a month then one day it froze & went to the screen saying to connect to iTunes saying it was in recovery mode. So I went to restore it but when it tried to verify it with the Apple store it kept getting an error. I took it to the Apple store & they said it had been jail broken so they couldn't do anything about it. I find it really odd the person didn't say anything about it being jail broken since people usually pay MORE for a phone that is. I see all these programs people download to restore it but I have NO IDEA how they even work. Any suggestions ?

I downloaded TinyUmbrella but I don't know what to do/how to use it. Like I'm new to this whole thing. I DID NOT WANT a jailbroken iPhone & if I had known that it was jail broken I wouldn't have purchased it. So I have zero knowledge about this whole thing. I read a thing on how to use Tiny Umbrella but my iPhone doesn't even show up in the side bar on the left at all.

Put it in DFU-mode and hit restore in iTunes, you will have stock 6.1.3 and the jailbreak will be gone.

You need it on a specific carrier? Make sure it is unlocked or locekd to that carrier before you restore. See th IMEI thread here for good sites to check

    DFU mode:
    Connect USB
Hold home and power until it turns off
Keep holding both for 3 more seconds
then release power while holding home for 10 more seconds
the screen will be black and itunes will report an iphone in recovery (actually it is in DFU but itnunes doesn't 'know' that)
    Hit restore in itunes

Also make sure you have never modified the host file on your computer - it should point to Apple.

Type "gs.apple.com" in your computer browser and see if it takes you to an Apple placeholder.

Okay but now it won't go past the "waiting for iPhone" part of the restore. This is so frustrating.
