I don't think it's possible natively on the 3G network, because the videos would probably take a really long time to load, so they are compressed for an almost instant stream.

On Wi-Fi the quality dramatically improves. Sometimes on my iPhone 3G, when I would be on Wi-Fi watching YouTube videos and turn off Wi-Fi and go back to YouTube to watch another video, they would load over 3G with Wi-Fi quality, but they would take a while to load.

Ok thanks. On my droid they would automatically load in high quality when on wi-fi and you had the option to load in HQ on 3G it just took longer. I was hoping it would be the same on the iPhone but it doesn't look like it.

I pulled up one of my own youtube videos the other day to show a friend and i think it played it in 480p or 720p over the 3g network, it didnt look bad at all. So i think they changed it now?
