iphone $499 Pricing question AT&t

Since one of my line is not eligible for upgrade, the only option i get is to purchase the phone at $499 price for a 16GB iphone 4s, if I purchase the iphone at the $499 price does that renew contract for 2 more years on at&t or the contract remains the same.

The contract renews. It's $649 unlocked and off contract.

Yes, you'd be renewing your contract for 2 years. $499 is still a partially subsidized price, not the full retail price, so the carrier is paying for a portion of the phone. You'd basically be doing an early upgrade, which does lock you into a new 2-year contract.

ok thanks, so than do i have to wait till the retail version is out? as no sense paying $449 only to renew contract.
