Whilst I was applying for insurance on the Barclays Bank website in the UK, I saw a curious option to select insurance for an iPhone 4G. Perhaps another clue that it is indeed expected. Have a look at the screen capture.

Looks like the IT people responsible may have accidentally programmed in 4G in anticipation of the release, and later added '4' since that's the official name.

Agree. Many case manufacturers hedged their bets as well - stating they fit the 4g.

You are probably correct, I only mentioned it, because when I first looked into the insurance I do not remember seeing that option, and that was about two weeks ago. So i thought it had only recently appeared. It could have been an oversight on my behalf though.

Would it not be usual for this to have been removed though if it indeed was a place holder, especially on something like insurance when details can make a huge difference when claiming. I would hate to find I wasn't covered if I accidentally had selected 4g instead of 4 thinking they were the same. The sort of mistake my non technologically minded parents could make.

Well its probably an inevitable future name, probably not worth them taking it off now :p

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

Great thread title. Good job.

*sigh* another one with insider information. Read: Bank Typo.

I never claimed insider information, just thought it was quite interesting, and a mac rumour website seemed the appropriate place to post. Apologies if I wasted your time.

4g will not be out in the UK for a few years yet. There just isn't enough coverage on 4g here, we still haven't even completed 3g coverage yet.
