But why state an assumption as fact? We don't know that Apple won't make some tweaks to address things such as shattering glass backs.

If you even read what you quoted, you'd see I used the word "if" when saying "if it's not a redesign..."

----------

I disagree. Most people are not geeks. My 4 works fantastic. If it's only internal upgrades - there would be no point for me.

I understand. There are a lot of people who have to have the newest devices though.

If they added better features - like more ram, A5 chip, better camera, etc. - without a redesign it'd be cool too.

The only people who think a non-redesigned iPhone 5 would be "cool" are spec-nerds who run benchmark tests constantly to see who has the fastest phones and people under contract with an iPhone 4 who can't stand the thought that something might come out that's better than the phone they own.

Why would anyone was a phone which virtually require you to have a case?? The iphone 4 is a gorgeous phone and it absolutely sux that u have hide the beauty with a case.

Ergonomics are bad. The curved back on a 3G/3GS is way more comfortable than the 4.

No you don't. Just be a responsible person. I've never had a case on mine and it looks fantastic. Sorry to take it out on you, but I'm so effing tired of hearing this crap.

ALSO... you can easily replace the back. If the 3G/3GS back cracked, you could not.

Your iPhone 4 is made of fragile glass that shatters from small drops (requiring the user to either buy an expensive case or pay to have the glass fixed) and has documented issues with it's antenna causing signal loss. Those are facts. On the opinion front, many people would agree that the iPhone 4 is uncomfortable to hold and slippery in the hand.

It is a terrible industrial design. Most people looking at it dispassionately (read: people who didn't spend $299 for it and have a need to justify their purchase) would agree that it's not a good phone design. It's pretty, but we're talking about a phone -- not a museum piece.

The fact that Apple is stubbornly sticking with it is vexing.

Well I suppose the original iPhone is perfect for average consumers.

Trust me, I'm no spec nerd, nor do I have an iPhone 4 (I have a Nexus S 4G). I'm just stating my opinion.

Apple will introduce an iPhone 5 at the keynote with a 4inch screen, 8mp camera, slightly tapered design.

Apple will act like this phone doesn't exist until it's unveiled on the 4th.

Agreed.

First off... my post was FOR a redesign. Saying if there was no redesign - I wouldn't upgrade because my 4 works perfectly for me.

But in regards to your argument that makes no sense in regards to what I said -- I don't have issues with the back glass. I don't have reception issues. I'm effing tired of hearing about it. The iPhone 4 design is AMAZING, IMO. BUT... I wouldn't mind the phone being thinner.. and I wouldn't mine a bigger screen/less dead space.

If you hate the design of the 4 - then move on ... stop crying. But I had mine sitting next to 2 different HTCs last night.. and it made them look like TOYS. Metal and glass, FTW.

First, it has nothing to do with being a responsible person. It's design is horrific ergonomically which means, among other things, it is easier to mishandle than the previous models and has more potential to be dropped. Therefore...

Second, why would you argue that something is easier to replace? The point is, because of a better design, the previous models were less likely to be dropped, and if they were the material is many times over less likely to be cracked. In other words: Yay! I don't have to spend as much money or time getting my iPhone 4 fixed as I would my 3G! ... but then again I never had to spend money or time getting my iPhone 3G fixed because it never needed it.

Your arguments are silly and illogical.

Back on topic??

it's logical assumption that this whole forum has been running on for many months now:

if it looks the same as the 4, but with tweaked internals, then 4S, like going from 3G to 3GS. if it's a different design, then it's the 5.

is that hard to understand? :p

i've dropped mine from 3 feet from the ground at home a few times, no shattering. I've not had 1 issue with the antenna causing any loss. i have no issue holding it in my hand using it alot. Personally it's my favourite iPhone yet. That's my experience though.

yes they are facts, but they don't affect every single phone.

I don't hold a phone like a handful of change. I hold the sides and grip it.
That being said... I've dropped my 3G.. but have never dropped my iPhone 4. Also, the front of all iPhones, and most smartphones are GLASS anyway. Soo.... it kind of matter how it lands.

They are opinions. We don't agree. Oh well. I'm glad Apple's thinking is closer to mine than yours... but I'm sure because everyone bitches about the glass back... it won't be around much longer.

Most products considered "defective" work well for many people -- that doesn't stop them from being defective or from being a solid investment.

The frustrating part is that they could choose any number of other materials to build the phone out of, but they insist on using fragile glass that shatters. Your phone is fine -- I know at least a half dozen people on their second and third panes of glass for their phone.

A simple design change fixes that, yet Apple stubbornly refuses.

if you're talking about the antenna thing when saying it's defective, antennagate did not affect 100% of the iPhone 4's made. back when it came out, me and my friends had all gotten one within a month of launch, about 15 of us, we compared them all, tried to replicate the antennagate issue, it only happened on one device, which the friend swapped out at the store for another one and it worked fine.

since launch more of my friends have gotten the iPhone 4, only 1 has had the glass shatter, that's cos she tripped in some high heels and launched it down the road.

Well this looks like the final nail in the coffin for the 'teardrop iPhone 5' theory. Let's face it, there has been NO physical evidence for the iPhone 5 and everything has pointed to the N94 iPhone 4S all along. We had all heard this year would be more about software than hardware with iOS 5 and iCloud and the Assistant feature and it looks like that is truly the case.

Those of you still in denial about the iPhone 5 - how messed up would Apple's product line look if they offered iPhone 4 8GB-32GB, iPhone 4S 16GB-32GB and iPhone 5 16GB-32GB (just guessing on the latter capacity) in both black and white? Doesn't sound very refined and Apple-like to me.

The teardrop iPhone 5 is likely an iPhone 6 or a prototype that didn't make the cut. Or a straight smokescreen on Apple's part.

i've always had a thought that there's 2 iPhones in the works and that a 4S would be this year and a 5 next year. Apple are always working on 2 iPhones at the same time as they take 2 years from the start or the project to release, so what if that's what's happening here, but the specs of the 5 got leaked somehow too and that's why there's thoughts of 2 different ones this year. All speculation i know, but food for thought.

Also, i doubt they'd have had a 4, 4s and 5 all at the same time, if anything, it would be a 4s 8Gb then 5 would be 16Gb & 32Gb. that's all.

So, even if it has a major defect making it unusable, you would rather Apple release it? Ready or not?
