With the iPhone 4S, it's tough to make it through a 12-hr work day without a charge.

My 3-yr old 3G got significantly better battery life than my 4S. No matter what I do, I cannot get more than 4 hours of a full charge on my 4S...

I work a 10 hour shift and start at 4am. By 12pm my battery is down to 1% averaging 4.5-5.0 hours of usage and 9-12 hours standby.

I'm confused by one thing in this post. Your shift starts at 4AM and by 12PM, so noon, it's down to 1%.

You say it averages 4.5 to 5 hours of usage and 9 - 12 hours of standby... but how is that possible when there's only 8 hours between 4AM and 12PM?

Not trying to be rude, I'm just a bit confused by that.

I wake up at 3am, that's when the phone comes off the charger. 3am-12pm = 9 hours standby. Sometimes I will go to sleep at midnight with phone at 100% and not placed on charger and get only 3 hours of sleep (really ). When I wake up around 3, it's still at 100%. So from midnight to noon = 12 hours and still average about 4 1/2 -5 hours of usage.

How can you use your phone that much at work? Shouldn't you guys be..ummm...working? ;)

Because I can :D. Streaming Sirius/Xm while on the job ;) There's time where I'm on a commute to a job and can be on the phone browsing (I'm not the one driving :p).

are you a nurse?

Yeah. I prefer to be called Mannurse

My biggest question is what type of job are you working 12 hours on that you can be using your phone that much on the job and not be near a charger. I would traveling jobs, but even then you have a car.

Never said I was on my phone a lot dude. Infact, that's why I have an issue. 12 hours of standby and about a lunch break on safari.

On a separate note, my girlfriend is a nurse and does 12 hour night/day shifts...you guys need more credit!

My 4S goes 18 hours and still has 40%. You need to look at what you got running. If you have no 3G turn it off!

+1
I'm a male and about to get to the last semester of my BSN program.
During my 10-12 hour clinical days, I'd charge my phone the day or night before. When I got to the hospital, I'd turn on the Wifi. End of the shift, I still had about 70-80%.

How these threads get off track....

I had the same problem with a near death phone when I left work.

I might be able to make 1 call from the car before it died.

But I have now solved the problem.

I work an 8 hour shift with a lot of down time and have to charge during the day. I have an IMAX battery extender from New Trent. I normally charge when I'm at 40%. The type of job that I have allows me to use my iPhone easily when it's being charged. By the time I leave work at 2:30 PM I'm at 100% and good to go of the night.

I'm gonna assume with all these "great" battery times posted a lot of you all are on Edge or Wifi and in no way possible on 3G, and have "big features" turned off. The numbers just don't make sense.

This was actually a great explanation of how they can run down that fast at work. With my job I'm not allowed to use my phone to interact with things at work (OPSEC reasons) so I sometimes forget that it can be used for work.

Spent many a night in op centers. Miss it about as much as going to sea and spending months submerged

For sure, 1 day standby and 10 hrs use? That's crazy!

Most have said how much it drains when on these shifts as there is no 3G...which means it searches for a connection alot

You charge it each night then?

why in the world would i not ?

commuting =/= working
if that was the case you could add 12 hours to my 80+ hour work week

btw its completely stupid to use your battery up during your commute if it means your phone dies early on you during the day

get a stand alone radio, listen to am/fm radio or just get a car charger

12 hour shifter here (dispatch) - always connected to office's wifi and I have about 40% remaining when I get home with my 4S. My 4 had about 55-60 with the same usage.

Should I turn off cell data while connected to wifi? Does that make a difference?

Tested it out today and so far at work

have only lost 15% over a 5 hour period where i have no 3G coverage so it is always searching for a connection.

had 9 e-mails
checked twitter a few times
had a few ESPN notifications
a few texts
5-10 minutes on real racing 2 which took about 5%

normally through as 12 hour shift at work i lose about 40% or around that...so so far i think turning off icloud back-up has helped my battery.
