So it seems the best way to do this is to activate the 4S with the sim card it comes with, then just swap them after, correct? I'll be doing this later tonight and want to make sure to get it right.

I've done this and works like a charm. do it this way.

Odd, I just swapped sims from my old Iphone4 to my new iPhone4S and it just worked. No hassles, no activation (atleast from what I could see). My phone is working fine.

The sim that came with the phone I have not activated.

Now as far as the speed, that i am unsure about.

Have you plugged into iTunes yet to sync, and did it ask to "verify" the phone?

I just re-read your original post, and I must apologize for not completely understanding what you wrote. In number 3, you mention your wife's SIM, so the iPhone 4S is actually for her line, correct? If so, you should be able to accomplish what you are trying to do, at least insofar as my conversation with the AT&T representative. I haven't read of anyone attempting same, so it's all theoretical at this point. Good luck with this process and please post back with your results.

But you're talking about iPhones on the same line, correct? He was talking about two lines, his line and his wife's line. There are two different numbers, therefore two different SIMs. The SIM is what contains the line information, not the iPhone.

I'm in the same exact scenario as OP, but my wife is out of town until tomorrow!!!!! Can't leave her stranded with her useless 3G, so I have to wait to play with my new toy 🙁

Sucks that AT&T is starting to play these games with their phones. Defeats the whole purpose of using the SIM system.
