iPhone iPhone 4s as a hotspot

I want to make my iPhone 4s a hotspot so I can use my iPad 2 whenever I need it. I even called AT&T to see if I could but was told I wouldn't be able to because I am grandfathered in to my unlimited plan. But, if I switch to another plan it could be done but then I won't have unlimited anymore.

To make a long story short, I want my iPhone to be a hotspot and will I be able to do it?

There are several threads in the iPhone Hacks forum about this. If you are not a bandwidth pig, you wont be contacted.

Once you buy it do you have to rebuy it when they update to an new IOS or all the updates free?

You have to pay to switch to another plan or tether with a jailbroken application.
