Hi, I just asked my carrier (Optus) to unlock my iPhone 4S 16GB. Now I am wondering whether is it a permanent unlock? For example, I know I have to restore in iTunes so that the unlock takes effect on my iPhone. Right now, my iPhone is unlocked but what if later I move to another country, restore it with a newer iOS in iTunes. Will it still be unlocked or get locked again?

Yes, once its carrier unlocked officially then its forever unlocked and will take any gsm sim no matter what firmware you restore or upgrade to.

I forgot to ask, can I activate my iPhone with another sim card in case I have to restore it or do I need my current sim card forever?
