Wrong, iPhone 4S has 1GB or ram.

Thanks for the correction. But it seems like CPU is more important than ram, seems likely that they'd be able to get it running on iPad 2. Not to mention that there won't be an iPad update for a few months so adding it would only help sales on that side.

I am happy with it and I will be getting it on Sprint.
It is like a Porsche 911, retain the same gorgeous body and have new and better internals.

The Androids are cheap crap. Do they have nice features? Sure. Performance wise a Corvette is similar to a Porsche or Ferrari, but in reality, they are much different machines.

I want Siri. But not enough to pay the upgrade fee (I won't qualify for a subsidized upgrade until February). My wife, on the other hand, is definitely tempted to upgrade her 3GS.

Of course, she's not a tech fanatic so about a week after getting it she'll swap me SIM cards :D.

This one is easy. It doesn't. Not even a little bit.

So all the times I spoke to text while driving and used voice to search something or a location I was dreaming? :eek:
Man I really hope I don't wake up any time soon than.
This voice to text sure is not even a little bit useful huh....

So, now Apple will carry 3GS, 4, and 4S? What is the word I was looking for? Oh yeah - fragmentation! Delicious irony is delicious :D

It isn't, same SDK, just 2 resolution, most same features to implement for devs, same OS version. You're just trolling.

What's not to like? You get the new and improved version of the iPhone 4. With every physical redesign, there is always something going wrong with apple products. People always complain they don't want to get Revision A products because they're like the beta testers. Even the iPhone had some issues with spontaneously cracking screens, disintegrating back plastic, antennae issues, etc.

If you don't change the appearance, you can use the engineering power to fix what's broken instead of starting from scratch and getting new problems. You don't have to replace any of your cases or other accessories. People won't try to steal it as much because it looks like a good ol' iPhone 4.

I'm still happy with my first generation iPhone, I'm seriously considering the 4S. The better camera and Siri alone seem worth the price over the iPhone 4, the zippiness is a welcome bonus. Looks like it will be available without a contract right away which is good.

I think the Asian markets may be where their attention lies

That's funny Android fanboys and Apple fanboys discussion,I'm still using a flip phone Sanyo MM-9000.Does everything I need.

BTW Apple failed big time...FTW.:D

While I agree they're probably giving up sales here in the US by not updating the case, I got the feeling their attention is to the east. That 5% worldwide market share figure was part of the presentation that got my attention. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that staying cheap with a modest spec upgrade allows them to make a more aggressive push in China.

Disappointing...the screen at least. Good hardware, 4 year old screen size. :rolleyes:

If it ain't broke...

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_4 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8K2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Do people posting this stuff even know the topic of this thread?

No. I think there is an amazon turk machine paying 10 cents a post for this crap.

Take her upgrade ;)

No you did that. You just have not bothered to spend any time researching the differences between your command driven voice interface a natural language interface like Siri. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Do some homework before following up. Regards.

MacRumors should stop posting heresy, and post the facts! Then people won't be disappointed. Simple.

I can't believe no one has called you on this, but....

Heresy: Belief or opinion contrary to orthodox religious doctrine

Hearsay: Information received from other people that cannot be adequately substantiated; rumor.

Pretty sure you meant the latter, unless MacRumors is a front for satanism.

:rolleyes:

When the iPhone 4 came out people said , ohh a new screen, a new case, and a new camera "THATS AN UPGRADE???" ANDROID WINS!

It is funny to watch the same people, say the same things again. It is even funnier to know they will not admit how wrong they were twelve months from now. They will continue to float in their bubbles of delusion.

Sorry if that seemed arrogant, but I heard that it needed 1GB of ram to run well.

I think you make a good point

one thing for sure is that iPhone 4 sales will sky rocket with $99 price tag.

I wonder how many family plans will be adding iphone 4's for the kids? Not much more than an Xbox game, and the kid is happy because no one can tell the difference between the old gimped phone and the new flagship model. (And the gimped iphone 4 is still perfectly usable...I'll be getting another year out of mine.)

Is that really the only reason you feel the iPhone has fallen behind?

How else has the iPhone fallen behind?

Honest questions. I understand people wanting a bigger screen (although, the iPhone size is ideal, since it just about allows 1 handed operation for me), but in what other way is the iPhone "behind"?

* No LTE (no simultaneous voice and data on Verizon)
* No WiMax (no simultaneous voice and data on Sprint)
* No HSPA+ (iPhone now is officially the slowest phone that can be bought for $100+)
* No NFC
* No OLED
* Slow processor (I expect them to clock it at 800MHz)
* No screen size choices
* No dual-band WiFi
* Only 512MB of RAM (expected)
* Mediocre front face camera (VGA vs 2 MP for Samsung Galaxy SII)
* No support for memory cards

The only feature where iPhone still stands out is screen resolution but even this one is going to be bested in exactly one week (Samsung Nexus Prime - 1280x720 resolution and LG has a similar model)

Too bad then. iPhone 4S has 512 MB ram until someone opens it up and checks. Apple said it has the same CPU as iPad2, which has memory on board of the chip, and has 512MB.

I think I'll wait it out.

The 4S is a stop gap phone...until they can get the chips to run iPhone 5 on LTE/4G. I think I'll wait for iPhone 5 later next year - The form factor will be sleeker, the screen better - mega-retina?, might have an A6 processor, bigger screen. I've waited for an iPhone this long....I can wait 6 or 7 more months.

Don't get me wrong - it still sounds like a really fine phone...just not the one I wanted.

:D

Sorry but, weren't basically all those downsides to iPhone 4 as well? It wasn't the fastest phone out there, no NFC. No Oled, no screen size choices, no dual band wifi, only 512MB ram (well at that point all the rest had 512 as well though), the camera resolution front and back were lower than competitors, and no support for memory cards where even much older phones had support for SD.

That did not change anything and iPhone 4 became the #1 smartphone worldwide anyway.
