iPhone 4S headphones have a different design?!

OP is referring to the rubber pieces on both ends of the remote/mic. It was probably added for support.

The Apple headphones are notorious for breaking at that stress point, so they added those rubber pieces to help it to not stretch/break.

Actually just realized I'm still using my headphones from my iPhone 4 and my 4S ones are probably still in the box so they may have the different design afterall
