don't believe the 13 mini has a headphone jack.
iPhone SE 2016 is the last model with a headphone jack... iPhone 7 and 7 Plus released in late 2016 no longer has a headphone jack and no iPhone ever since has it...

iPhone SE 2016 is the last model in its size that still has a home button... iPhone SE 2020 and SE 2022 both have home button but they are bigger than SE 2016

iPhone 12 mini and 13 mini are the closest to iPhone SE 2016 in terms of size but they have a bigger screen due to no longer having a home button... Go with the iPhone 13 mini since it has better battery life than iPhone 12 mini...

iOS 15 is the last update for iPhone 6s, iPhone SE 2016, and iPhone 7 so you will no longer get app updates for those that require anything newer than iOS 15, Netflix for example, but you can still use the last compatible version although sooner or later they will stop working and you will need to purchase an iPhone that can run iOS 17 and newer since that version will still get app updates for many years...

How iOS Apps Adapt to the various iPhone 12 Screen Sizes - also applies to iPhone 13 series

i looked into it, too complicated for me to attempt. and outsourcing it isn't worth it. i do have a nice SE1, but only has 32 gb. i may end up using that one, esp. if the screen on mine gets worse.
Im Sorry about that. Maybe you have a technically inclined friend that can exchange them. It isn’t much different than it was with the iPhone 5s, the only tricky part is maybe installing the Touch ID Home Button. I hope you can sort this out somehow.

I tried using headphones again with my backup OG SE.. and man, didn’t realise how much better the AirPods experience is. I don’t miss having a headphone jack one bit.

also, i like the physical home button, and use the headphone jack a lot. and i like that not supports a sim card.
SE1 is the last model with the headphone jack. Then Apple removed it to sell AirPods.

Midrange Androids like Motos still have a headphone jack, so if you like listening to music, you might look in that direction.

Get a 64gb or 128gb SE. They are still 'vintage' in Apple's definition, so you can get official battery replacements for them.
I have used the SE on and off since 2017, they still work perfectly. I strongly recommend getting one. I tried the 13 mini and it's just not the same.

just reading that the SE4, due out first quarter '25, will have OLED. might struggle through until then to see what it is like. like i'm holding off getting a new laptop (2011 pro) until the M4 appears, then deciding.

yeah, not into buds. more items to manage, recharge, drop, break, lose, etc. if i got a free pair i would try them....

Not having a wire is nice, I started using Bluetooth headphones when I still had a headphone jack. I've also purchased a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter for the rare occasion that I do want to plug headphones in. The charging aspect is the main drawback but I often use over-ear headphones that have multiple days of battery.

It sounds like that SE will be similar to the iPhone 16, so I wouldn't expect a smaller screen size if that's what you're waiting for.

I use headphone jacks so infrequently that I had to actually look at my 11 Pro Max to realize it didn't have one.

The only difference I have here (with you) is that I use bone conduction headsets. I hate anything in my ears or on my ears and bone conduction allows me to listen to whatever I'm listening to and still hear with my ears.

In the meantime I don't have anything compressing me head or things irritating my ear canals.

Both my kids are Gen-Z, so for them it's headphone jack and wired all the way. 🤷‍♂️
