iPhone 4S is actually a big upgrade from the 4! (with iOS 7)

Hello everyone
Just thought I would share my excitement. I am upgrading my iPhone 4 to a 4S on Monday. My mom is getting a 5c and so I am getting her 4S.
The more I think about it the more I realize----the 4S is really going to be a big upgrade from my 4!
First off are the hardware upgrades----
HUGE processor upgrade, from A4 to A5. My 4 is quite laggy on iOS 7.1 so this upgrade will be really awesome.
Great camera upgrade, from 5MP to 8MP.
Double the storage, from 8GB to 16GB.

And of course all the software features that the 4 doesn't have----
Turn-by-turn directions in Maps.
3D Maps and Flyover.
Dictation.
AirPlay Mirroring.
Blur effect throughout the OS.
Parallax effect.
Dynamic wallpapers.
Live camera filters.
Panoramic camera.
Animations in the weather app.
PLUS all the upgrades that iOS8 brings that the 4 won't even get!

So overall the 4S is a huge upgrade! I never really thought that it could be such a big upgrade from one model to the next, but in this case it is.
Has anyone else recently upgraded an iPhone 4 to a 4S?

I think the upgrade between the 4 and 4S was even greater than the 3 to 3GS and the 5 to 5S.

Enjoy your iPhone!
It's buttery smooth compared to the 4.

Yeah I agree, I think the dual-core A5 chip makes the huge difference. Glad to hear it is buttery smooth, I notice it whenever I use my mom's 4S.
 
I had to double check to make sure this wasn't a bump of a thread from 2011.

Congrats OP..all that matters is that you like it. I will say that I loved my 4.
 
Actually just bought a 4S off eBay, I got tired of the Moto G after a week (what was I thinking), but the 4S is still very powerful. Not super fast, but it handles iOS transparency/parallax effects well, and can still take any game you throw at it.
 
The iPhone 4S is likely . Going to get a cut down version. Of ios 8 wish means you won't be getting ever new little toy that ios 8 has. Now the iPhone 5S will be getting all the new toys that's coming to ios 8 same with the iPad Air But the iPhone 5 and 5C will likely. Get some things missing from ios 8 when it comes out

Im ok with that; i'm just glad to get some/most of the features.

I agree, this iphone is just tot damn good, I too upgraded 1 month ago from iphone 4 to 4s and the difference is big, besides the CC that lags while on homescreen, everything is pretty smooth and I can play the latest games just fine. Congratulations for your upgrade!

Every iPhone gets cut features past the initial version of iOS it comes with. Some things minor others not. The 5S will be missing something like every iPhone before it, probably most will consider whatever that is to be insignificant.

agreed. i think the iPhone 4S was the best iPhone ever made. the A5 chip have proven to not only be battery efficient but powerful enough to keep up with mostly everything. the 4/4S build quality was superior to

IMO, the iPhone 4S was the best phone ever made
 
Surprisingly the 4S with the latest available software operates very smoothly. I can't say much about the 4, but a certain youtuber always complains about how slow it is.

Just curious... What did the iphone 5 not get with iOS 7? I don't remember it or the 5c to be missing anything.

Which means I don't see what the 5s will be missing anything, but I could be forgetting

Yeah this is true, but the touchID is a guarantee. I guess the slow mo could be a missing feature, but I guess I don't consider it "missing". When I did a good search of iOS 7 features missing on iPhone 5 nothing really pulled up...

There's nothing significant that I'm aware of, but there are a few minor things.

Could they work on iOS 6? Nope. Software and hardware are deeply integrated, and since both Touch ID and SloMo will presumably be on future generations of iPhone, they're not really 5s features. Else you would call iMessage a hardware feature since it relies on cellular/data.

It also has the M7 processor.

I know about the difference between 4 and 4s, It annoys me when people put them together and say that they run horribly. :D And the iPhone 5 will be even better on iOS 8.
