Are you updated to the latest iOS 5.0.1?

Yes, I have the latest iOS version. Since I strongly think it is a software issue, I am waiting anxiously for iOS 5.1 hoping this is fixed! I've tried every kind of restore, and even set it up as a new iPhone multiple times.

That does not sound like a software issue then. I would book a genius appointment for at least your 4S but I would also bring in your 3GS and see what the Genius can do. Obviously you wouldn't want to pay for a replacement but if you can get a good Genius they might have some solution for you. iOS 5.1 might be a hit-or-miss solution though, as I had kernel panics documented on my 3GS way back on 4.1. I don't remember how I fixed it though.

I do think it sounds like a software problem... Three different phones, bought at totally different times in quite different places face the same issue. The common thing to the three of the is that cellular data setting set to off, which leads me to believe it might be a nasty OS bug related with the setting.
Still, I am willing to try anything... Only problem is I do not live in the US so I can't go to an Apple Store all that often...

I too think this is a software problem. I've been having the exact same issue and even with replaced hardware it still exists. I've done it all...restore, set up a new phone...nothing stops it. The reboots are random, happens every few days (that I see at least) and with no rhyme or reason. Also lots of crash reports, low memory errors and kernel panics in the diagnostics reports.

.....are you also having issues where you have a good reception but internet pages won't load? call's dropping / failing? FaceTime even dropping on wi-fi? texts instantly failing again with good reception (being 3-5 bars with 3G).

Only recently has this started happening with me. I'm using a 4S, and yes - my iPhone4 worked A LOT better. But who's to blame? Am I holding it incorrectly? Is it the hardware? Software? Or is my carrier at fault?

Should I go to an Apple Store? Or should I call my carrier?

I had to go through a lot of trouble (I live in Mexico BTW) to had my iPhone finally replaced (today actually). I'm really hoping this phone doesn't present the same problem. If it does then it is definitely a nasty iOS bug which will hopefully be corrected for iOS 5.1. As of right now, I'm restoring my iPhone to have version 5.0.1 build 9A406 installed and see how that goes. I will post back if there are any updates.

Oh and Spaceboy88, I wouldn't really worry about the low memory logs, really just the kernel panics.

Still happening

Just a week after getting hardware replaced and setting up my new phone as a new iPhone, the reboots started happening again. Today was the first day I noticed one, while I was right in the middle of a call. When I checked the logs, they have been happening since wednesday(merely five days after having the phone replaced)!

This is definitely a software issue or a really big batch of bad phones!

Updates anybody?

May I say, hopefully not reviving too old of a thread. That this could be an issue of hardware but most likely you're looking at software issues. If the network is running, gps, and a high demand program, the phone may crash. What I don't understand is why people expect god-like technology.

I do not believe anybody on this forum (not me for sure) expects a "god-like technology" from Apple. As a matter of fact, I do not expect that sort of thing from any manufacturer.

The purpose of forums like these is not "whining" about how our products suck. The way I see it, the forums provide a way to hear from people having the same issues as you, so we can try to solve the problem collectively.

Truth be told, Apple indeed does have a wonderful warranty. It is a pity that in my case (iPhones in Mexico), iPhone service is monopolized and not up to Apple standards. However this is not the point.

As a consumer, I do not want "god-like technology", I want a device that works as advertised and that is usable. More than 10 reboots in a day, with cellular data and location services disabled is not exactly my definition of a usable device. I know such a gadget may crash once in a while. However, my issue happened way too often to allow proper use of the phone.

As a solution, I did two things: go to the only service provider I am entitled to (having purchased the phone in Mexico) and search the internet for possible fixes. As part of the process of ruling out possibilities, I had my hardware replaced, thanks to Apple's warranty. That turned out not to be the problem, but a software bug in iOS 5.

So, long story short, I don't see me complaining about Apple's warranty.

Finally, I would not say it was "the dealers fault" that I crashed my car into a tree. I think I might let them know though, if right after being handed a brand new car, the engine shut down and turned back on at its "will" while I was driving it.

Enough said.

==========
Edit:
Nice trim on that last post by the way :)

Same thing

I am having the same problems on my iPhone 4S, running iOS 6.0

I purchased the phone in Feb 2012, and had it reboot the first day without having installed any apps. I believe that was while running iOS 5.0.1, but am not positive.

I am seeing a few different behaviors, from a black screen when pressing the home button to unlock forcing a hard reboot, to random restarts a few times a day.

I have restored the phone several times to no avail, and had hoped that the update to iOS 6.0 would have resolved - but it did not.
