I purchased a new 64GB iPhone 4S on 10-28-11. One hour later the phone turned itself off although the battery was about 55% full. Next day, it turned itself off twice, the day after it did the same and continues to turn itself off about twice daily for one week. I reset the phone several times, did not install any apps on it or synch it with anything just to see what happens, and it continued to shut off. When I called Apple Support, the person said most likely it would be a hardware problem and to go to any Apple store and get it replaced. I made an appointment and went to an Apple Store on 11-5-11, and was shocked and surprised that the tech and even the manager later on refused to replace it with another one. They flatly refused and said wait until Apple comes with an update that might fix the problem. They refused to change it although I told them it is brand new and keeps turning off. I had no choice but to return the iPhone 4S to where I purchased it from and got my money back.

Ive got the same problem now with my 32g 4S
I checked my diagnostics and there were several rests and quite a few PANIC messages there.
Phoned my service provider to be told I will have to wait 2 weeks for a replacement, till then I will have to put up with the problem.
I called my local Apple store to be told that they will not guarantee to replac it even though I am taking time out to go and see them with over an 8- mile round trip, parking and time at MY expense because their product is not working correctly.
After having all the models of Iphone since release and then passing them on to relatives and thinking of getting myself an Ipad, Im afraid the sloppiness of the 4S and the attitude from Apple has made me decide its time for change.
If Ive got to use an old fashioned phone for at least 2 weeks untill my provider gets one out to me and Apple cant guarantee they will help, Ill send it back, as its only 1 day old and give a Windows or Android a try, I can buy one of those tomorrow and Im sure they cant be as bad a this.
I cant be the only one that feels this way...

Just got a 4S yesterday.. was in the middle of sending a text when the phone shut off completely.

When I started it up, I checked Diagnostics and had an entry for "RestartCounter" or something along those lines... no panic entries... anyone see something like this?

EDIT: It says ResetCounter, not RestartCounter, and I just got another one! Shut down for the second time today.

EDIT #2: Make that three times =( Going to try a Restore from iTunes

EDIT #3: Restore didn't work, it's shutdown/crashed 5 more times. Going to the Apple store today to talk to them about it. This is crazy, what if someone's making an emergency call and the phone shuts off?

Just had my first taste of this today. Caught it in the act - phone was next to me on my desk in sleep mode when suddenly the small spinning shut-down wheel appeared on the screen. Battery was at 90% when this happened.

After watching it for 30 seconds, the spinning wheel froze. Only the two-fingered salute brought it back to life. No panic entry in diag, but I did earn a resetcounter entry. This is my second 4S, it's been working flawlessly the past 6 weeks or so. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come...

Phone working well, but battery drain issue

Now
iphone4s
ios5.0.1 9A406

Set a new phone, sync contact from iTunes
in the first day, receive few crash log which is panic.plist (auto-reboot into dfu mode)

My solution: WIfi ON while in Home,
3G ON while in outside,
Just don't let the phone stay quite, unless it will receive panic.plist again.

Any better solution for this?
I don't want to replace a new phone from Apple.

I do have panic messages. So that definitely means that I have a lemon? I need to take it back to the apple store?

I don't have any Panics in my diagnostics but my phone shuts off as soon as I'm not on wifi and most the time when I open the camera. I turned off cellular data an that helped but useless out of wifi. I read replacing the battery might help

Also when playing games it shuts off in wifi and battery dies fast.

This is what I get in my diagnostics
