But the 3 year is optional for those that want it. A majority of people will not change their phones every year.

Did Timzer, the Apple hating, Samsung loving troll get caught with 2 accounts? Haha... :D

Yet, I'm going to get temp ban again for calling a troll, a troll.

Lol you people... "How can you even make a phone last for 3 years lolz derp"
Are you people using it for a hockey puck or a coaster? Tossing it around or using it to prop up your wobbly table? There's an app for that.
Care for what you have and they'll last a lot longer than 3 years.

iPhone 3G lasted me 3 years of solid use, rarely shutting off, alarms, calls, a couple accidental drops and then I upgraded to the i5, it's still working just fine, battery and all. Aside from having an ancient ARM processor at 400mhz it's a perfect phone.
What you should actually say is "How can a phone still be viable with such rapid technological advancements in the market?" Well simply it isn't viable, it just gets you by until you can get the new one.

I know people that cant make a cellphone last longer than 3-4 months. Warranty is a must for some:D
Its all how you handle your devices and how clumsy you are I guess. Just cause you, me and some people keep theirs in top shape for years doesnt mean everyone does. People tend to drop, sit on them, get them wet, leave them on the roof of their cars, run them over etc... You name it :D
Not everyones daily use is the same and they are fragile devices in general.

I'm not a fan of 2 year contracts never mind 3. That's too long.
Who keeps the same phone for 3 years nowadays?

How about 1 year even :D

3 year contract= $99
2 year contract= $199
1 year contract ? = $299 (?)

Seems logical

It seems that at least on AT&T, a mid-cycle upgrade will run you $449 instead of $199 ... definitely not close to $299!

Apple aint dropping the price, but the carriers! I dont think you understand a subsidie phone to a retail price phone.

In the US Apple bullies the carrier to where to set its price (well not bullies just tells them). It's a privilege for a carrier to sell iPhones in apples eyes, which is probably true. Carriers would charge more for an iPhone if they could since it cost them more.

But 3 years for 99 seems reasonable. Customers will be forced to pay a termination fee or pay full price for the next iPhone. Imagine using a 3 year old iPhone if you are really into iPhones? That would suck. In the end the carrier and apple win no matter what happens.

ok thanx thats what i just say!

Best Buy had them on sale around Christmas time for $50 off as well. It happens with any phone, but it doesn't make the phone any less valuable.

Robbers could make it "FREE" they are still paying Apple the full retail price for each unit sold. Clearly you don't understand how phones are subsidized.
