I had a customer with a 4 s who would charge and a similar thing would happen, I checked in the diagnostic logs and saw that the mail app was constantly crashing and I mean constantly causing it to sick the battery. This was malfunctioning in the background and hammering it. Given that it was an pale app we couldn't remove the app and install so we opted to wipe the phone and restore. This worked no problem and resolved the issue.

Take a look in the diagnostic logs on your phone and see what's listed.

Great.....here is what it says... any idea on what that means?

Cycle Count: 479

Design Capacity: 1430

Full Charge Capacity: 784

Status: Success

Battery Current Capacity: 60

Battery is charging: true

External charge capable: false

External connected: false

fully charged: false

gas gauge capacity: true.

Battery is shot. Buy a new up from and DIY or have Apple do it.

Here is the situation, and it has been getting worse.

I wake up after charging my phone all nite and its now 830am and my phone is already at ONLY 75%. my battery is horrible! I have only been texting this morning and checking email and reading a few new apps.

I have looked on lots of different threads and can't really find out why this is happening.

I have done all the so called tricks to preserve the better life. Is there something wrong with my phone?

Are you using an authentic apple charger and cable?

Possible reasons
- rogue app running in the background
- low cellular signal
- brightness setting
- just a bad battery
Location services/Bluetooth/wifi on?

If suspect a bad battery apple can test with in 5 minutes. If in warranty free replacement. If out it's up to genius and you.

Guys it's crystal clear. The OP's battery is shot. Software set for battery optimization will be like putting a band aid on a shotgun wound.

I was having the same problem and rather than do a software reset and set the phone up as new (admittedly something I probably need to do) I but the bullet and bought a replacement battery off of ifixit and did the install myself.

It fixed the problem - my phone no longer shuts down randomly when it hits 20-30% battery remaining and my phone generally lasts all day with light to moderate usage. Prior to replacing the battery I had to charge my phone multiple times per day and it was generally unreliable once the charge dropped below 50%.

I highly recommend going the DIY rout, the swap was pretty easy and there are tons of walk through's on youtube and the web.

I had a battery exhibiting the same issues as you. I took my phone to a local phone repair shop and paid $35 for a new battery replacement for my iP5. I have to say, it is the best investment I spent on my nearly 2 year old phone. The original battery NEVER worked as well as the new one. I went to the genius bar twice within the first two months of owning my 5 back in Oct/Nov of 2012 and their program says my battery was working fine. I told them, 50% in 4 hours of doing nothing is NOT "fine."

Now, the replacement battery, while I can't confirm it is OEM, works so much better. I am at work now, used the phone here and there for surfing on LTE, texts and some emails and the phone is sitting at 85% after 4.5 hours off charger. This is much better than what I previously had to put up with!

I no longer have charging anxiety, for example, I can charge my phone at night, and when it hits 100% I'll usually take it off charge, then put it in Airplane mode. 6 hours or so later when I leave for work, I remove it from Airplane and it is usually still at 100 or about 99% and I'm good to go.

It's what me and a few others have been saying. IPhone batteries are the worse of the worse.

They make sure, through updates and the crap batteries themselves, that you buy an iPhone 6.

Don't be surprised if the guy at the store tries to convince you to get a new phone.

iPhone batteries start giving you problems after the 1.5 year mark. Sometimes 1 year depending on the updates.

My phone was at 85% yesterday after about 10 hours off the charger. Using on 3G.

Getting rid of the iPhone for a G2 worked even better for me.
