What in the name of all that is holy happened here? I had to upload this because I can't believe it. I've never before gotten even close to this kind of battery life. I have wifi and cellular enabled but LTE off, BT off, I have auto brightness on, and I used the phone for calling, some browsing, some iHeartRadio, a lot of iMessage and a lot of music. I'm pretty satisfied with iPhone 5 battery life.

I gotta say, this is the best battery life I've gotten on any smartphone. I use it anytime I want, as long as I want and still have enough battery to get me through the 2nd day.... and it charges in only 2 hours. HAHAH.

the SECRET to iphone 5 battery life

i finally figured it out. . .has taken me a solid month of testing different procedures, combinations, different features on and off. i hesitate to post it here. . .but the results are nothing short of MIRACULOUS

ok here it is. . .after trying every permutation of suggestion on this thread. . .i have the phone turned off. not just LTE, location services, bluetooth, but EVERYTHING. every 12 hours i check the battery. then i turn the phone back off immediately.

after *9* days. . .still 99%!!!!

this will literally revolutionize the way people look at the battery life issue. . .of that i am sure of

:D:D:D:D

I found this better, if you use your house/public phone for talking and a computer for other internet related things, you can turn your phone off completely and check it once a week, it will last longer. Innovative!

I'm not sure what happened but on Wifi for 90% of the time I was on browsing, email no push or fetch, with some gaming, texting, and about an hour and a half phone call and I got 10 hours 1 minute usage and 30 hours standby. Wifi seems to make all the difference for me but I'm pretty happy now with it.

Upgraded from the 4 to 5 Sunday and I extremely disappointed in battery life. Seeking any advice.

It is 8:35 p.m. and I'm at 9 percent and haven't done much really. It has been off charger since around 6:30 a.m.

I have all location services turned off except FB, Find my Phone and Yelp, and push on email set to 1 hour. Haven't streamed any Musuc or videos, haven't used the camera, etc.

I went to Usage and it says usage is 7 hours, 23 minutes since last full charge. Standby listed at 13 hours, 16 minutes. I DEFINITELY haven't used my phone for 7 hours today. It has dropped two percentage points in 25 minutes sitting unused in my table.

I followed the steps on the previous page (except I didn't restore badminton turning off iMessage, it is the biggest use of the phone for me.

I'm close to returning this 5. Very disappointing.

With LTE i get about 5hrs
On 3G i get about 7
On wifi I get 10+

Depends how you use your phone i guess and your connection.

If you have not already, I would turn off everything in the system services. Most of these here are optional - at least for me and no problems so far- I do not need features like "Genius for Apps" or "Location based iAds".

(settings->privacy->location services->system services)
Cell Network Search
Compass Calibration
Diagnostics & Usage
Genius for Apps
Location-Based iAds
Setting Time Zone
Traffic

This is the only customization that I've did so far since day 1 of my iphone5(> 6 weeks now) apart from restoring it from backup and has served me well;definitely better than ip4 - I usually get a standby time of 2 days with 8hrs/day on LTE and remaining on WiFi. I make a few calls and stream music over BT in my car. Notification is on with DoNoDisturb scheduled from 7pm-6am. My usage time is usually about 6-7hours for two days. imessage is on and so is "push" for yahoo and my work a/c over MS exchange.

This is very interesting. Just switched all of these off so we'll see how it affects my nattery life now. Thank you for that suggestion.

I'm quite satisfied with my current battery life. Charged it last night and done some browsing, text and a couple of calls.

I read on this site every day, but I just now feel the need to register. Anyhow, This is a screenshot from last night. Now, I know there isn't a lot of usage time, but what usage time there was included 14 holes of golf playing Tiger Woods 2012, and completing 9 levels of Angry Birds SW edition. I have been averaging about 38-42 hours, but this past charge cycle was ..

NOTE: I plugged the iphone in for a grand total of one minute during this cycle in order to copy a picture over to my work computer. Then it was quickly unplugged because I had already registered about 49 hours at that point and didn't want to jack up the results too much. Even at the point that I plugged in I was immensely impressed. Also, I am starting again today and will hopefully be able to run the same test scenario again without plugging in at any point, for any reason.

Hello,
This is an interesting one. Yesterday, I went to the Apple Store and had my 64gb iP5 exchanged due to a hardware issue. I have had 4 different 5's with the first one having some substantial chips and damage and the second was swapped for a Genius Bar iP5 due to network issues.

Here is where it gets interesting, like my past 5's, I waited until the battery went to zero before charging. This happened around 11 last night. It was fully charged around 12:30-1. Unlike my past 3 which dropped around 20% overnight, this one was at 97%. Now after a few phone calls and whatnot it stands at 93% with 38 minutes usage and 8 hours and 30 minutes standby.
Cheers,
JJ

Anyone drain while shut down (shut off)?

my battery life seemed OK. But last night I had an unusual event. I charged to 100% and shut the phone down (off). When I woke up the phone was drained! It is charging now. Anyone seen this before? Wonder if it's software or hardware? Might be an anomaly. I might try a DFU restore when I have a chance.

Hello,
I had that exact same thing happen to me last month. It was a one time occurrence for me. However, for the week after I was pretty skittish about it.

I honestly do not think it will happen again. A glitch in the matrix if you will.
I would give it a night or two before going through a DFU Restore personally.
Cheers,
JJ

Sadly until apple sort out the battery life of its phones im stuck on android, i currently have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which lasts 24-26hrs at my normal usages levels and around 16 hours with heavy use, thanks to being able to replace the stock battery with a high capacity one,. the iPhone 4S , and the 3GS i had before that would normally need to be charged after 4-6 hours, so when they announced the iPhone 5 was thinner than the 4S i assume the worst in terms of battery life and suspect i would not get much more than 5 or 6 hours out of it without having to charge it.

I will admit i am a HEAVY user, screen is on almost all day, with an hour and half of 3G streaming video twice a day (My commute to and from work watching netflix or some other streaming service), i use the phone all day online, running web tools and even remote accessing servers and desktops on it when required, i dont have time to sit and charge a device all day, and im not carrying a charger with me all the time to grab a 5 minute charge here and there when i can.

i just wish apple would stop with the thin kick, and produce a phone thats usable, for a FULL work day + Commute time, i should be able to undock a phone in the morning, and then use it all day, docking it to charge overnight, not undock it in the morning, then dock it again when i get to work just to have enough charge to see me through the trip home.

Got the phone Monday night. charged it overnight and just now putting it on the charger wednesday afternoon. Not bad for the first day. Hopefully it will get even better. Had it plugged to my computer for 5 minutes to put a few songs on.

Hi Jeff.

If you have been on these forums for a longer time you mustve found out some battery fixes?
First of all, turn of your bluetooth....
Then read the next fixes.

Thanks,

I use my bluetooth pretty regularly and with it getting 66 hours and 48 minutes with 5% left, I thought that was pretty good.

The first week of having the Iphone 5, I was telling everyone the battery life is amazing. I even have screenshots and I'm pretty sure I posted some on here where I had 8 hours of use and still had like 30-40 % battery left.

This has changed dramatically and the only thing I've done is download 4-5 apps. I've even turned things off like location services which I had ON before and things just keep getting worse.

Right now I'm at 32% with 8H 21M standby and 4H 36M use. This is fairly okay compared to what I've been getting in the last week or so but basically, there is no way I can make it through the whole day. I took my phone off the charger at 5:30AM this morning at 100% and it's 2:10 Right now and 31%.
