Mine has been draining 40% just overnight. I finally figured out that it's because I opened the Skype app 3 weeks ago and it's still open. That sucker lives through forced reboots.

2 Hours of use, 5 hours of standby. 65%. No push email turned on, LTE off (do not have it in town), Autobrightness. Maybe an hour of browsing and a few phone calls the rest light texting. So far I am not happy with the battery life of my 5.

Just irritates me, I got up at 7 used my phone for that little amount of time, now I'm at work sitting at 65%.

Does this sound off to anybody? Going to try to run it down to zero and fully charge and see what happens.

I've found the ultimate solution to battery life. Dump your iPhone 5, and replace it with an iPad mini.

Buy a cheap feature phone for calls, and enjoy the spacious display, and terrific portability of the mini.

It's a really great way to enjoy a wonderful experience without dealing with short run times.

I routinely get 10 hours from my mini quite easily.

This can't be right...shall I book a Genius appointment?

Never hurts to check, but if it is bad or not depends on how you are using it. Perhaps the best actual test I have seen is this:
Test Results
Short version of the results:
10.27 hours WiFi Web Browsing
4.5 hours 3G/4G Web Browsing
3.15 hours gaming
8.75 talk time
So compare this with your mix.

Music is practically "free!"

When I am in town, almost all of my time is web browsing and checking weather and occasionally maps. So all battery intensive. My times range from 5.5 hours if in town (so some 4G and some Wifi) to 9 hours if traveling, where I play music on the plane, often have fast LTE service in the other city, etc.

Don't forget, that the standby clock overlaps the usage. So with these huge times you see, either someone is staring at the screen literally all day or they are playing a lot of background music.

Mine sits all day on my desk with the occasional browsing. my iPhone 4 never gave me such bad results...i will go and see if i can get it exchanged. have it now for a month or so and it's not getting better.

here in the uk it's not even on LTE.

Good luck! Apple was nice to me with my iPhone 4 exchanges in the past . . . for battery life! For me, it came down to my usage pattern more than anything else. The exchanges worked just the same. But I did feel better about trying!

iPhone newcomer here. To what extent does the amount of apps you have downloaded affect your battery life? Even if you're not using them.

Is this good battery life??

Seriously WTF. I unplugged my phone at 8 am when my alarm went off, and I just got back from class and it was at 9%. All I've done today is light browsing, texting, and Facebooking during my lunch break, along with a short 10 minute Facetime call. No way have I been using my phone THAT much. I made sure to close all my apps, but something is using the battery constantly...

Looks like you've got LTE on there.

Yes, but look at the usage and standby times. Something in the background is eating up my battery as I am definitely not using my phone that much . A couple of days ago I was getting two days of light usage easily with LTE, but after restarting, I noticed the battery dropping extremely fast. I just don't know what it is...

My battery life seems to be good. This morning it was at 97%, as I work nights, I went to bed around 07:30 and used an app called Sleep101 that monitors how you sleep. I didn't have the phone plugged in so it was running off battery. Didn't sleep well and was up around 11:00. Did a bit of browsing, played a couple of games and then spent the rest of the day streaming music off Spotify with the screen on and playing videos.

Came back into work at 19:00 using turn by turn directions for the hell of it and the battery was at 1%, so I carried on playing music videos until it ran out of power and turned itself off. I then charged it fully. Now it's still sat at 100%, it's receiving emails and I've given it some light use.

Not bad I think. Making sure it's fully discharged before charging definitely helps IMO.

Is my battery usage normal? I did a clean restore and it seems slightly worse.

Location services off
1 email account on hourly fetch
Auto-brightness off at about 20%
LTE off, and reception was good (b/w -75 and -90)

All I did was use alien blue, a little on 3G mostly wifi, watch like 3 mins worth of video and listen to about a half hour of music.

I did plug it it in for 3 mins to upload a vid to my phone, but it was at 100% so it didn't indicate it under the usage stats.

For what it's worth, I was able to fix my iPhone 5 battery issues by simply going to the Skype settings and setting Go Offline to "Immediately" (was "Never"). Phone went from draining 10% overnight to 0%. Very pleased.

I had mine swapped out for new ip5 week 42 model last week.

I removed it from charge around 830pm last nite at 88% and its 330pm now and shows 15hrs since last charge at 21%. I have listened to music, surfed..apps ..camera and have few apps open. I had restored from my last backup when i received the phone too so it wasn't setup up as a new phone.
its strange that some days it shows 6-7 hrs and then now its like 10-13..i still am a bit cautious as some apps just eat away at it.

also when i was with apple genius he did some diagnostics on the ip5 and he was showing me where some apps cause issues with the ios6 and in mine there were like 7-8 or them. don't remember off hand what they were.
So some of the battery issues could be bad apps too..?

I make sure I close all my apps when im done too.

I will try that. Always suspected Skype to be a culprit.

EDIT: wow, what a difference. Thanks for the advice, that really sorted out my battery issues!

Honestly that doesn't look right to me. Maybe if the standby time was alot better usage wise it wouldn't be as bad. The fact you say you used mainly wifi is why I would say that isn't very good.

That's about 7 hours and 10 min full usage when it shuts off. That's not the best I've seen but it's not bad.

Edited to add, looks like you got it sorted out with Skype settings. Must be REALLY good battery life now. :)

I just bought my I phone yesterday. This is the first charge. I live in Orlando fl so lte is on the entire time. I love it

You're lucky. I live about 1.5 hours from Orlando, no LTE here yet, I was in Orlando a few times and was getting LTE speeds in the 40-60 Mbps range. I'm anxiously awaiting LTE in my city. Any time now....any time...... :)
