I can't wait to get my black 64 I just ordered a Lucky labs transparent and glossy black Spectra wrap. I'll be good with mine.

I knew it! Even though I think the black is a cool looking phone I knew this would be an issue being an avid watch collector and knowing that no matter how durable the coating or how it's applied be it anodization, PVD, DLC, etc... they ALL wear away and show the base metal.

The black 5 will look good for a couple weeks and then this forum is going to be flooded with "my black is rubbing off" threads and I will be secure in knowing I made the right choice with the white. Put some wear on the raw aluminum of the white iPhone 5 and all you will see is more of the same, the same will happen with the black but instead of black it will be raw aluminum!

I think "scuffgate" is a perfectly appropriate term for the upcoming flurry of internet hate that will be swirling when all of us early adopters get our grubby hands on black phones.

Feel better?

I asked this in the other thread

Has anybody seen pics or video of the scuffs ?

This is the only reviewer who has mentioned this

This is exactly why I ordered the white one. My old slate iPod nano scuffed like that and I didn't want my iPhone to do the same.

Deep breaths folks - calm...

Based on my brief hands on, I'll wager the black will prove more durable than people think over time. The unit I saw had been around the block shall we say and looked fine.

What about using a full body screen protector like ghost armor?

Front & back plus the sides , that's what I'm going to do

I will also use a bumper

Slashgear seems to be seeing the same issue.

They’re finished with a beautiful chamfered edge, which Apple says is diamond-cut; it’s unfortunately reasonably prone to scrapes, however, and after just a few days of relatively kid-glove treatment, this black review model bore at least one small scar. It would likely be less obvious with a white version.

apparently not all that durable. I'd like mine to be scar-free for more than a few days.

My black Barely There case is sitting on my desk waiting for the 5. I have had one on my 4s and it still looks like new.

You are not the only one. It's a phone. You carry it around more than anything else you own. It's going to get scruffed, scratched, dribbled on and grubby. Just live with it. It'll be fine.

No No NO. Dont buy a case.

Naked all the way. Dont ruing such a beautiful phone by putting a fugly case on it.

Thats what insurance is for

I'm going to take an emery cloth to make it look cool regardless of scuff-gate or not :p

Oh dear oh dear.... Here's a review from "pocket lint". If mine starts to do it within the return period it's going back for a white one!!!

- "It is now chamfered and while that looks pretty, we've already noticed that on the black model the edge has started to wear, revealing the shiny silver aluminium metal underneath the "slate" coloured coating and, indeed, we've witnessed it on two separate models, ruling out a fluke manufacturing error."

its given, black is a better color but will give you a lot of fingerprints and scuff/scratches

i dont like white for the reason that almost all women in our office uses white iphone4/4s and iphone 5 white is almost exactly the same.

i want black but i hate scratches and the only solution is to put shield like zagg and i also hate it.

EDIT:
cases will also give you scuff on the black iphone 5.

I have to agree now that we have damage insurance why but a case on it I think this will be my first aiphone that I don't stick in a huge case.
