Was this meant for case manufacturers? Interesting that the copyright dates back to 2010, perhaps when Steve was helping design this?

They had the iPhone 5 designed while the iPhone 3G(s) was only on the shelves for a few months. I guess the iPhone 6[?] is already on the verge of completion as we type.

Well we all know apple test their phones for a year, so actually the iPhone 5 is last year phone. The are probably testing iPhone 5S or 6 in their labs as we speak.

That's just a generic copyright date on the drawing title block. The drawn and detailed fields are 9/12/12; the date they released this to case manufacturers I guess. I'm an engineer working in the auto industry. Those generic text areas on the title block to not get updated regularly.

I am an engineer too, and this clearly isn't a drawing that Apple would use internally to describe the component sizes.

This is clearly a drawing intended only for accessory manufacturers. Any thing they us internal for construction of the phone would have to have a better tolerance range. A +/- of .20 mm for a dimension to X.XX is pretty big for even larger parts, let alone a cell phone.

Curiously, there is no drawing number or revisions to this drawing.
