I used to be able to reproduce this problem by simply playing music in the background, but I'm no longer able to reproduce it and it hasn't happened in a few weeks at least. No updates to iOS during this time or anything.

Very strange, has anyone else noticed that this comes and goes?

I'm getting a bit worried that it really is hardware related, in that case I'd like to get it fixed. But if it's a software issue I'll just leave it at that...

Hi guys.....just a noob dropping by.

I had this problem today, was gutted, phones only a month old and really take care of it, no drops or knocks

After reading post about wi-fi glitch i reolized i had just turned mine off so am i rite in saying if its a glitch its a software issue and may be sorted on next update?

Its kinda rubbish really things happening like this to a phone thats supposed to be a cut above the rest, before this phone i had an S2 which had had alot abuse......it rolled around in my tool box, got dropped, wet, bashed....was great, like the old nokia days when you didnt need to give a monkeys because you knew it could take it. Anyways anyone found out any more info on this?

Mine seems ok now after a re-boot, dunno how long for tho

I'm gonna say this is almost definitely a hardware issue. Mine comes and goes every three weeks or so, and neither rebooting or restoring the entire OS made any difference.

I took a photo once while this malfunction was happening, and if you zoom in on the pixels you can see the standard iPhone sharpening and post processing gets applied on the magenta bars. In my opinion this means the fault comes in before the camera interface receives the raw image data, so it is almost certainly a sensor issue.

I've sent mine in for repairs, hoping they'll do something even if they can't replicate the issue when they test it.

Does anyone know if Apple has had anything to say about this so far?

I've had this issue maybe 3 or 4 times in 9 months. I haven't seen the issue appear for months now, and I almost daily use my camera.

I'd say take it in while it's still under warranty. Mine happened infrequently enough for it not to be a major thing, but I did miss out on one really good photo because of this issue. Also, I'm not sure if this issue gets worse over time or not. It did seem that way with my phone.

I sent my phone in with a few screen shots and photos showing the problem and they're sending me a new phone now. This will be my third iPhone 5, the first had battery problems. I'm gonna be sad if this new one has issues as well.
