I am trying to delete a work email account mapped using exchange. When i had to do this in the past, I go to > settings > mail, contacts, calendars then select the account and scroll down to delete

Currently that will not work. When I select the account I want to delete, the iphone highlights the account in blue stall and kicks back to the home screen. all my other accounts go to the next menu (icloud, comcast, add an account)

So something is wrong or corrupt with this account.

I should note that the phone is not receiving email from either account and is draining battery at an alarming rate - 100% to 10% in 2 hours. So I believe it all has to do with this account being frozen.

I tried soft reset (power/home), I reset network setting, reset all settings then finally selected erase all content and settings. I then backed up from itunes and have the same problem

Is there any back door way to delete the account or back up my iphone without this exchange setting so when restoring I dont have the same problem

Thanks

Is there a way to manually configure the backup so that i can exclude the "corrupt" account so when restoring I dont restore the same issue

Yes, but it doesn't look like excluding mail is an option.

It would be settings > icloud > storage and backup > manage storage > choose your backup > show all apps -- and deselect the app you want to exclude.

But like I said, it doesn't look like deselecting mail is an option.
