Who sells the iphones to him in the first place? Apple should able to track it down with the serial numbers easily... I hate these kind of people, dont tell me free-market bs please.

You hate people who sell stuff at market price? Or are you under the impression that he stole them?

Why pay so much extra to get an iPhone 5 a tiny bit early? This is only useful if someone needs it for some obscure business reason.

It's not a tiny bit early.. We are talking months early. HK gets their iPhones in a few days but China won't get theirs for several more months.

who would be stupid enough to buy one for that massively inflated price when it launches only in a couple of days for real LOL.

Talk about a bad investment... This is like buying stock in a company and knowing for a fact that the value will plummet in a few days.

The grey markets we are talking about are in Hong Kong. If someone can go to Hong Kong to get a $1100 iPhone, they can go to Hong Kong a few days later and get it much cheaper.

----------

Not sure if you knew this but Apple actually doesn't make the laws in China. Just sayin

No clue why you are inferring the phones are stolen.

He thinks that these were obtained by factory workers who stole them from the factories in China. It's a reasonable suspicion, but I won't point fingers until there is more reason for doubt. Where did they get the iPhones?

----------

Scum like this is why the market is flooded with fakes and scams. That part of the world is off the charts in terms of just plain bad mojo. Then again, if you're stupid enough to pay 11 bills for an iPhone, you deserve it.

It is indeed a real iPhone. There's nothing dirty about selling something at market value.

What I think is dirty about China is how Chinese companies shamelessly copy designs from American companies. I have nothing against global trade, but the USA should not allow imports from a country with such screwed up regulations. Huawei, a company which should burst into flames, completely stole binary code from Cisco routers and other products. The workers are slaves, and the factories are major polluters. Too bad any kind of tension between China and the USA would crash the stock market.

"What’s more, he has prepared “secret” couriers in U.S. and Europe"

Hate these guys. You always knew who it was. ****ing up my AppleCare [and when it existed, MobileMe] numbers.

Folks in Western world pls read: DON'T BUY ANY "IPHONE" IN HONG KONG WHICH IS ON SALE AT NON-APPLE STORE OR UNAUTHORIZED RESELLERS. THEY ARE VERY LIKELY TO BE GOOPHONE OR OTHER FAKED CHINESE PRODUCTS!

FOR THOSE REAL IPHONES THOSE SHOPS BUY BACK FROM HONGKONGERS, THEY ARE MOSTLY TRANSPORTED TO GREY MARKETS IN CHINA!

If the US is not allowed to purchase unlocked version on day 1 for this reason, why would Canada be allowed?

We're not.
Your location says "Toronto", but your post says otherwise. Yes, of course we are able to buy unlocked phones on day one in Canada. Apple themselves are selling factory unlocked phones directly. You can preorder one on their site right now.

That's just absurd. There are plenty of real iPhones at shops like this guy's. If you're all that concerned, just open it on the spot. They'd have to have balls of steel to try to cheat you like that.

And to those who wouldn't pay $1100, clearly you haven't seen the folks coming from China with obscene amounts of money. $1100 is a drop in the bucket for them. A tiny drop. Not only will they spend that on an iPhone, they'll go back home and brag to their buddies about having the new iPhone before its official release in China AND the price they paid for that privilege.

what's sad is that his T-shirt is an imitation too.

i see so many copycat hollister/abercrombie shirts in east asia.

and those brands were 'trendy' 6+ years ago!

Not too sure about this logic.

In Canada we can order unlocked iPhone's from the Canada Apple store online.

But these are not delivered on day 1 probably. Not sure.

Don't forget they selling with that price at Singapore grey market too. The place called Lucky Plaza. lol!

I saw this guy in Hong Kong during summer time. His shop is in the busiest district named Monk Kok, only about 300 sq fts big, but thousand of people go there daily, buy and sell, buy and sell continuously, like a stock market. Gotta love his Hollister shirt, I believe Hollister just opened their first store in Hong Kong last year, so he thinks he looks cool, but...hehee :D... just my 2 cents.

That whole complex is full of these grey market stores that sells phones and tablets. I managed to get rid of my old 3g and first gen ipad there and still able to get reasonable deal even after a year or two old.

Exactly.

1. Reserve two iPhones today
2. Buy them at Apple Store tomorrow
3. Sell them to Mr. Lo and co.

It's almost a guaranteed and risk-less profit of US$500 just like that. That's why HK people call the reservation system iDraw here.

No queuing outside the store. No pre-orders. Just lottery.

Plenty of money in Hong Kong, it makes Manhattan look like a paupers colony. Hong Kong people love to have the latest tech to show off, and plenty will pay a premium to have stuff early.

I'm broke. I'd really like to do this. What is Mr. Lo's contact info?

3GS was sold for a lot more than that .. more shockingly, people in the UK and Germany paid that sort of money .. some eBay auctions went mental ...
