Anyone else noticed the classic Tri Tone sounds different?

Some weird sort of resonance going on there, it's a different sound.

Yeah, not a fan of the new Siri sounds. And don't change the Tri-tone and call it a classic.

I too had issues with quiet text alert sounds, even though I had the volume in the sounds tab all the way up. I didn't want to reset all, so I turned the volume in the sounds tab all the way down, then all the way back up and that did the trick.

I agree. The new ringtones are too low even when I set the slider right up to the maximunum. They are OK when I am indoors, but whenever I am outdoors or in a crowded space, I miss most of my calls and text messages.

I have the iPhone 5 and I've used every one of the betas. The ringtones all sound just fine to me. I set up my phone as a new device using iOS 7 GM.

I was starting to think I was the only one! I'm experiencing this too and it hasn't changed with the full retail release. All the new alerts and ringtones are too quiet to be useable. I thought that maybe I was just imagining this issue but I compared my phone with a friends identical iPhone 5 and her ringtones (ios 6) were loud and clear. Definitely not so with the ios 7 versions.

I took it a step further than most - I pulled the ringtones straight from the ipsw file and loaded them into an audio program. What I found was that it's not the hardware, but the ringtones themselves that are the problem. They were encoded at a very low volume. The fix for me, while not practical for most people, was to amplify the ones I like and sync them to iTunes. It worked but how stupid that I had to do that. Here's hoping more people notice this so Apple fixes it.

Good work checking this out.

Hopefully it will be addressed as it's stopping me using most of the new tones.

Not sure if this would have anything to do with it, but I was listening to a podcast earlier, and it seemed to be not as loud as it was before the iOS 7 update (ps I always listen at the same volume level). I went investigating into the settings, and noticed that "sound check" in the music settings seems to have an impact on my podcast sound. I've always had sound check on since I got my phone last year, and I don't think this had been an issue on iOS 6. Could the sound check now be applying itself to the entire OS?

Low volume

Yes, the ringtone volume is too low on both my and my girlfriend's iPhone 5's. At the same time, another friend of mine is satisfied with the volume on his iPhone 5.

1. Is this bug happening just to some of us, or it's just a perception thing?

2. Also, has anyone else noticed that we don't have the unlock sound anymore?

(I've checked this on 3x iPhone 5's and one 4s, and on all 4 devices the unlocking "click" sound is missing).

3. How can we notify Apple about these sound problems?

This is a first ever for :apple: company and I feel a little disappointed.

1. If sgaske's analysis is correct it's happening to all of us, it's just some people are ok with it.

2. If you use the Search Forum option there are a few threads on this already which may help you.

3. HengenJL has the answer to this in the post above.

How you exported the IOS 7 ringtones, not the ones you purchased or make it by yourself. I have the same volume issue, my ringtones are like 50% lower then before upgrading the iOS, very hard to hear when the phone is ringing, I have a lot of miss calls because of this issue. There are some nice ringtones that are coming with with iOS 7, and I want to use them, but I need to export them somehow and amplify them, and them export them to iTunes.
Does anybody have an idea how this ringtones can be exported from the iPhone to Mac ? Thanks

I pulled them from the ipsw but they can also be found pretty easily by searching google. Once downloaded, run them through audacity or Amadeus pro (what I used) and use a amplify filter and boost them by 10db and that will do the trick.

Just a side note, now that ios 7 is live, more and more posts have been appearing in regards to this issue. Today I listened to my friends phone with ios 7 (same friend as above) and her new ios 7 ringtones sound clean, crisp and loud, even more full I'd say. Before ios 7 my ringtones were fine, so it would indicate that this is a software issue, but does NOT explain why the volume is not consistent across devices. Hardware problem? Could be, but why then were the ringtones fine in ios 6? This is beyond baffling and frustrating and I will be taking my phone to apple to complain. Sadly I never bothered with AppleCare so this might cost me.

One more thing - my manually boosted ringtones still do not sound as good as my friends stock tones. So maybe encoding isn't really the issue.

Check your apps. If you lower the sound on another app (such as a game), I found it also lowered the rest of my sounds (alerts, texts, etc). with IOS7. The ringtone was fine, but the rest were affected.

Once I realized this, all the sounds are fine. I used to be able to lower the sounds on the apps without affecting the rest. I wish we could still do that.

That would be odd. The alert sounds have been and should be connected to the ringtone sound level not app sound level. If that's really the case now, it's got to be a bug.

I agree with all the posts that the new iOS7 ringtones...including "classics" are much lower than they were on iOS6. :(

Has anybody found a sure cure?

I have an iPhone 5 and recently upgraded to iOS 7. My ringtone volume seemed fine, but my text tone was WAAAY too quiet. After reading this forum, I found the solution for me. I went to settings...sounds... and then I slid the volume slider all the way to the left, and then all the way to the right. This worked for me, and now my text tone is loud. Too loud almost. Go figure!
