I take issue with this tired phrase (and its not specific to apple). What exactly are people thinking, a companies NEWEST product would be created to be WORSE than the previous models?

So while the iPhone 5 is "the best iPhone yet", i don't think any HONEST Apple fan could say "This was the best Apple could do".

Lots of the threads here seem to think it is worse. Look at the threads of folks saying they're going back to the 4S.

Meanwhile, this it is a pretty awesome phone. What else could they have done to make it better? At least with the hardware. Its a balance between size and power. They came up with a much more powerful phone, with LTE thats even smaller, thinner, lighter, despite having a bigger screen. Seems pretty awesome to me.

iOS6 is different. You could argue forever about adding in tons of new features vs. trying to hone a few features. To me, its been a decent, reliable update. Not revolutionary but fine.

I don't know your area, but when I look on Google Maps, I found a place named "Hamilton" in both the locations Apple maps found it. What does the "Hamilton" thats by Rice Lake refer to? Its just under Cold Springs.

I also see that, I assume it's a hamlet or township. It may be real but it's prominence is disproportionate to the gas station it appears to be on satellite view.

Cha ching! Right on the money. Omg the new phone is faster, lighter, thinner! How could they top this?! Haha Haha same ol same :D

Depends where you are. Many features in my area are either in the wrong place or in the right place but repeated somewhere else as well in the wrong place.

Two examples are Hamilton, ON which is shown both in the right place (the west end of Lake Ontario) and also 200km east, between Cobourg, ON and Rice Lake to the north. It shows 'Ganaraska Forest' being where it is, just north of Clarington, ON at the intersection of Hwy 115 and 35 and also north of Markham, ON in Stouffville off Hwy 48, 50 km away from its real location.

Those are two obvious errors, there are a lot more less obvious ones in my area.

The Maps app is excellent but the data needs a lot of work before I would feel confident using it as a trusted source.

Of course it doesn't work, those aren't even states or cities in the US.

I understand that many of you guys enjoy complaining about something. But you still have not fully answered my question. What is it about the maps did you do not like? How are they not helpful with getting you to where you need to be compared to Google maps?

I'm not sure how repeating what has been stated hundreds of thousands of times in the Internet helps, but as others have said, the issue is accuracy. Not just a restaurant or point of interest missing, but entire towns are labeled incorrectly. Trusting a search with apple maps and then using it for turn by turn navigation is like a game of roulette. You ask "how are they not helping you get where you need to be"... Well, telling me the completely wrong location for where I need to be is a bit of a fundamental issue with a maps app, wouldn't you say?

No, I don't and never have worked for Apple and the last time I worked in an Apple centric business, I had a Macintosh IIce running System 7 on my desk and I was working at an Authorized Reseller doing AUX and network support, back when coax 10baseT was kickass.

I do however have a twitter feed telling me how crappy the iPhone 5 is. I've had every iPhone to date and base my assessment from experience. This is the best one by a significant margin.

You are correct, it is the BEST Iphone to date but not the best phone on the market.

Are those areas still misplaced? Every time someone reports an error, I try it and it seems correct. Either Apple fixed it, or someone misinterpreted the results.

There was lots of press that the Washington Monument was in the Potomac. Yet it comes up in the right spot for me.

I saw a purposely deceiving image supposedly showing a 3D search for the Sears Tower in Chicago. Looked like it was labeling some other building. But if you try to replicate it, you'd see that they made the 3D angle so close to the ground that another building was in the way of the tower. It was pointing to the sears tower base, with this other building in the way making it look wrong.

I've reported some errors to them and they're already fixed.

but not the best phone on the market.

You're welcome to have your own (incorrect) opinion :)
