Apple is all about innovating, I don't see LED notifications happening...

I don't understand this comment at all. Many of the items in IOS5 (notifications being an obvious one) are directly from Android. Multi-color LED notifications are something sorely missing from the iPhone. There is nothing "innovative" about not having a highly desired feature that most other phones have...

I have been a long time advocate for the LED notification light.

This is basically what I want to see on the next iPhone.....

Remember the blackberry pearl (and countless other OLD phones)? Ok now take that light, and all of its customization options, then put in on an iPhone. Done.

If Apple keeps the current form factor they could build a small LED right under the glass, say to the right of the ear speaker. And of course, all users should have the option to use it or not and the ability to customize how/when it displays.

Now your nerds are happy, your deaf users are happy, and your customers that fear change are happy. EVERYONE WINS.

they have it on the ios 5 beta for the iPhone 4 tho...

They have it for the LED FLASH. In other words, the back of the phone camera LED.. which is way too bright. This does, however, indicate that there might be a simpler easier-on-the-eyes LED for notifications in the upcoming iPhone. Especially since Apple turned their eyes on how their phone handles notifications and seem to be willing to improve it in that department... and because it's an extremely easy thing to implement (such as in the BB's, a flashing red LED).

those lights on the blackberry is what made me buy mine

I don't think people are understanding this is in accessibilities. It's for hearing impaired people. It has nothing to do with an upcoming feature.

Because all deaf people should have to sit there phones face down on the table.

I think the fact that this feature popped up in beta means that we will eventually see a LED notification light. Apple probably threw this in the beta for.... well, I don't know why to be honest. Because they can't seriously expect people to use it. No one is going to see the flash go off if the phone is in their pocket or sitting back down on a table. Which I think we can all agree those are the two places our phones are the most. Apple is probably just toying with the idea now to make sure it works at the software level without interfering with anything.

Will it be on the next gen iPhone? I hope so. If not, I'm sure it's gotta happen sooner or later.

With the increases in quality they're trying to make for facetime, I could see them adding an LED to the front facing camera (like on the macbooks) to illuminate the user during facetime calls, and then also enabling that for notifications

Why is it under accessibilities then?

Either way I'm definitely enjoying it, especially since I'm in very loud environments, very frequently. (and the custom vibrations per contact are great too)

However they do it, it needs to blink every 5 secs til you see the missed call/text, and it needs to be on the front of the phone. How awesome would it be to be able to program it to flash blue for email, green for text, red for calls, purple for facebook... Orange for twitter mentions, lol. Seriously though, something like that would rock my world.

as I said, I don't know.

But I think if Apple is concerned about accessibilities for the hard of hearing or deaf, then they are probably working on a light for the FRONT on the phone.

If you are deaf and using an iPhone, what good is that light on the back? You might as well unlock the phone and look at the screen. It's a flash after all, not so good for notifications.

All I was trying to say is that since this feature popped up, it's reasonable to speculate we may see a front LED in the future. That would be a true accessibility option, as well as a perk for everyone else.
