Nothing strange about it. I changed my mind (as stated in the opening of this very thread) because I'm using glas.t

Right so you stating that I am clueless and spreading false info was out of base? You also state that you would not mind if the defender made the indentations on your $35 screen protector however I am just helping and advising those who would have an issue and do not want to have to replace their screen protector when/if the defender damages their screen...

This creates extra pressure against the phone. This is sure to either increase the risk of denting the aluminum or cracking the glass, correct?

Me too. I bought a defender in black as well another screen protector. Soon I removed the built-in defender screen protector. It totally unnecessary to me, and doesn't feel so good as the separate one.

The thin rubber also works to prevent the iphone5 shaking in the hard inner plastic case, which is 1mm larger than the phone, I think.

When the 4 screen was scratched/pitted by the defender, I just had a regular/plastic screen protector. I had already removed the built-in defender screen protector. The rear of my case was never scratched by the felt.

The defender for iphone 5 no longer uses a felt. Instead, it's a very soft and very thin piece of spongey rubber - is the best I can describe it.

I don't know why but on the Defender case I had when I removed the protector, it made the case creak and the structure feel REALLY weak. As if it were a bad fit. So as I added the built-in protector back into the equation, the structure of the case felt nice and solid again.

I don't know WHY, or how this happened, but has anyone else experienced this scenario?

This thread inspired me to do the same with my OB Defender that I purchased this evening. Except, I used a cheap screen protector I got with another case and it works perfectly. The SP that is built in with the OB Defender is absolutely terrible.

I had an Otterbox Defender on my iPhone 4 since release date. I removed the built-in screen protector and installed a plastic/basic SGP screen protector.
When I removed the Defender from the 4 a few months prior to purchasing the iPhone 5, I noticed that the case had caused indentations/scratches on the glass screen of the 4, in a couple different areas near the top. I had a plastic screen protector on, so that absorbed most of the pressure, but it did leave noticeable scratches. That turned me off to the Defender, but I still really liked the case. I switched over the Incipio Delta along with SGP Glast. The combo was really great together.

Once I got the 5, I applied a SGP Glast. screen protector, and got the Incipio Dualpro, basically the same thing as the older Delta. It was a nice combo, but I still wanted to try the Defender, especially since I had applied the Glas.t screen protector, figuring it would protect the iPhone 5's screen. There's nothing like the feel of the glas.t screen protector - just like the iPhone 5's screen.

It was a really tight fit, but all snaps connected and it seems like a good fit. Some photos are posted below. You can notice a small gap at the bottom of the case, likely because I have the SGP Glas.t jellybean sticker over the home button. I may remove that to see if it helps to close the case more. Also note that I seem to have received an "early" model of the Defender, where the iPhone 5 had a little room at the top and bottom, as mentioned in a few other threads, and that Otterbox was fixing with a newer batch of cases. It was "made in China", in case that matters - as others have received Mexico cases.

Nice!!! So, I have the same thing. I have three otterbox defender cases so I can mix/match the colors. What I had to do is scrape the inside of the top piece of the otterbox plastic case so it would fit better. I don't want the plastic part of the otterbox top piece to scratch or leave an impression on the Glast.R. Have you taken your phone out of the O-Box case to inspect the Glast? Is it still in good shape?

As I understad, your otterbox plastic case is a tight fit on your phone. Did you by any chance remove the soft foam from the back piece to give you more room? You could insert a piece of paper in its place along with having a screen protector on the back of the phone. I may try that. Thanks for your post, please reply.

Glad I stumbled on this thread. I also removed the built in SP on Otterbox defender for iPhone 5. As far as I can tell, there is no damaged to my phone but I have stopped using it til my bodyguardz pure arrives & hopefully it will be a good combo

While the defender IS bulky, I am used to the feel & also had one on my 4. Switching to a normal" , I feel like I'm holding something dainty in my hand that I good easily snap in half :)

Any pics (for new people) to understand what you're saying would be appreciated. I am also thinking of going the route of OB Def case, taking out Screen Protector and using BodyGaurdz Pure Glass case. So am trying to collect any information that I can get before I actually do this.

Thanks,

Can the OP provide an update as to the condition of the glass protector? Did the defender leave any indents or marks on the screen?

Hey Thade! Have you gotten your Pure and tried it with the Otterbox? I have both but I have yet to remove the screen protector (kinda want to save it still) but so far I have it with a SGP ultra-light and liking it.

Was also wondering if instead of using OB Defender, what would happen if I use OB Commuter and used Bodyguardz Pure Glass protector. That way I do not have to rip anything apart and also the case wouldn't be as bulky as OB Defender is. Or do you think that I need the bulky Defender in order to use Pure protector?

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions on this?

I haven't yet removed the defender to clean and inspect the glass, but I'll update here when I do.

I didn't remove that foam piece on the inside of the back case, either. It was a tight fit, but it wasn't necessary to remove that.

Please keep us updated on the condition of screen please. Like I stated before I would like to go back to the defender but would like to know if the issue still exists with a glass protector...

Love this case, found it for $21

I just got the iphone 5 Otterbox Defender case and I love it. I no longer have to be afraid to drop it or scratch it. Plus once in a while I take it out of the case and it feels like a new phone again :

Oh, also, I found it for only $21 + Free shipping at http://iguardcell.com/ use coupon "freeshipcase" they also have iphone 4s Otters too

I tried the Commuter with the Pure and the silicone wouldn't wrap around the top of the screen protector as it was too thick. The Pure makes the phone to big to fit in the Commuter. Sucks as that was going to be my combo. I moved to the Candyshell Grip and actually enjoying that. Works great with the Pure.

So I guess I'll have to use Defender if I want to use Pure or as you did - Candyshell Grip. Thanks for the helpful info.

I JUST installed bodyguards pure. I'm currently weighting it down just to give the adhesive a chance to set but I did pop my phone into my defender case and it snapped together with no undue pressure ....

Update: Yeah, this is the perfect combo. I may need to tweak the home button a bit. I added one of the buttons included with the bodyguardz pure but may need to raise it a bit higher

I never had much of an issue with the defender's bulk. My iphone 4 spent its life in a defender. I didn't even mind the screen protector as it had a nice glide to it after it picked up a good coat of smear :) The problem I had was I could detect and obsess over the tiniest bit of dust so I was constantly cleaning it and re-cleaning it. The Pure solves all that & I was fortunate to get a dust free installation.
