Long story short, I had an iPhone 5 which had swollen battery. Apple Store gave me a refurb to replace it. This was in late October 2014.

For the past few months now, my phone randomly reboots to the black screen with the apple logo.

I've restored it several times to no avail. It's up to date with the latest ios.

Any ideas what might be doing this? It's hard for me to get over to the apple store so I'm going to try to go as soon as I can.

Thank you.

Some app or service you are using that might be causing it to crash perhaps?

Go to Diagnostic and Usage Data. Scroll down and you'll find all the crashes under ResetCounter.
Try to match these with the crashes of the programs/apps that are also displayed there.
Find the culprit and delete it. That should do it.

I looked and I see a lot of Jetsam posts. Not sure what thats about.

I did book an appointment with the apple store tomorrow night so hopefully they can shed some light on this individual phone.

Thanks! :D

There's not much you can do about the Jetsam Events.
What you're looking for is an app. The more you'll see an app listed there the more likely to be the one that causes your phone to crash.
Anyway, since you booked an appointment I'm sure they'll figure it out.
Good luck.

Thankies--

I took it to them, the guy was confused by the error reports. He thought he knew what it would be but the report on my phone was not what he expected. Never seen anything like it. He reset my phone and said not to restore from back up. I did not.

They offered me the option to buy another refurb for $300. I don't have that kind of money. I went home with the reset phone which started this crap again after only 4 days. Now Im stuck with a crap refurb phone :(

So bummed out.

Apple Tech .. is confused .. and Apple Store sells refurbished iPhone ???

that is two weird statements for me to wrap my mind around that is Apple Store is 'confused' at what is happening with a tweaky electrical product they manufacture.

Also I go to the Apple Store online and they have Pads, Pods and Macs that are refurbished ... but no iPhones in my neck of the woods ... which is Silicone Valley.

especially with a new 5s/32 going at $149.00 out the door.

To me this is weird ... bizarre ... do not make sense .. that is on the double.

Id love to know where to get a brand new 5S for only $149.00 lol. Ill make a guess they're stuck attached to a provider like ATT or Verizon.

What confuses me is that when I am not using the iPhone temporarily, it blacks out after a few minutes and I have to enter my password instead?

What do you expect to happen? (And what does it have to do with the topic--does it restart somehow, is that what's happening?)

I really didn't know where to put my question. After using, I put it down and when I pick it up after 30 sec or so, it is black and I have to reboot it.. (*_*)

Why do you have to reboot it? What about simply pressing the sleep/lock button or the home button to get the screen to turn on?
