Just because you have 2 phones with this issue doesn't mean it's widespread. If it were, this forum would have the pitchforks out.

You just got unlucky. Get an exchange.

i had a faulty lock button...

i think it is pretty common. my gf lock button stopped working as well.

maybe not a widespread issue but it is common...

also remember macrumors probably only accounts for 10-15% of those using iPhones

Take it to an apple store. Theyll swap out the phone for you. Going through Vodafone is just unwarranted hassle.

Seb (we share the same name ;) )

Thanks Seb! (don't see too many Seb's around!?) :p

Yeh even getting my phone on launch day was an absolute nightmare with Vodafone. Despite being a customer for over 10 years and paying £hundreds per month for 6 iPhones, I was still treated like crap.

I'l take it to an Apple Store.

Ya I started getting this issue on my iPhone 5 while I was in Vegas the last couple days. I have an appointment today as the Proximity sensor on my wife's iPhone 4 (the 8GB one we got last month) is faulty. I wanna show them the issue with mine as well but it's been spotty to replicate today (go figure)

I took my 5 in this week and the guy didn't even check it. He said its very common at the moment. My replacement is perfect and actually has a screen that isn't yellow thank fully.

I had my lock button gradually fail also, after about 5 months. Apple store said it was pretty common and they usually replace the button while you wait. The day I went in, they were out of buttons and gave me a replacement phone instead.

i just noticed my replacement iphone 5's power button is a little wobbly. it feels like it teeters in its place. however, it works perfectly fine. ill see how much longer it will stay this way before i decide to replace it again.

I mean yeah I noticed mine has a problem a little too where I can only hit the right side left side is iffy to work. However I normally use assistive touch or I don't notice where I hit my lock button and its only not locked maybe 5 times. If my lock button completely fails then I will take it in.
