Can iPhone 5 shut down in the cold? Lately its been shutting down randomly and the weather has been cold. I live in Massachusetts. Sometimes the battery would be draining like crazy.

Cold temperatures can negatively impact your battery life.

It's probably not cold enough to cause your phone to malfunction. It actually works better in colder temperatures (but not too cold, obviously)

Just checked your weather and yes at -2'c you will see rapid drain as well as random powering off.

Yes it can shutdown in the cold. Most electronics will shut down in extreme temperatures.

Yes, a few folks I know on the iPhone 5 are having battery problems, and the cold makes the issues more frequent. One got his battery replaced and no more issues with the battery or cold (but we don't normally get much colder than the recommended device operating temperature).
