We've all now heard about scuff marks and scratches out of the box... I have a small white mark on my black iPhone 5, but I can live with it... what is 'bugging' me a bit is that the SIM tray cover is a slightly different black/grey than the rest of the bezel/antenna. Not bothering me enough to get a new one, but I was just wondering, is this the same with all black iPhone 5's?

Mine does seem to be a slightly different hue than the rest of the metal band. (it's a bit darker)

I'm returning this for a new one as it won't activate, I'll let you know if it's the same on that one.

Guess it's just me... might go check some out in store and see if there's a similar discolouration.

Mine is the same, might have to do with the grain? Doesn't bother me. I have a replacement coming anyways because of a scratch.

But now I notice my ambiant light sensor seems to be broken. If auto brightness is set it dims all the way to 0 when making a dall and doesn't return.

Mines the same as yours, doesn't bother me too much since my iPhone 4 and 4S were the same, there was a different grain and it would reflect differently than the band. Bothered me on my 4, but have gotten used to it since then.

Funny you mention this, I noticed the same color differential on the display IP5 at the Apple Store and was like wtf??

Yep, mine is slightly lighter in shade than the rest. No matter!

Right!? Very non apple like in terms of quality control.

Slightly lighter is one thing but full blown different color like the picture above, in any light is an issue. My original IP5 didn't have the problem.

This is probably because of the angle and the fact it's recessed slightly so it catches the light differently. If I angle my phone right, I can get the tray to be either lighter, darker, or the exact same shade as the rest of the phone.

Wow.

To be honest, I've been wondering when someone would bring this up.
