So I will be upgrading to the iPhone 5 in early December. I'm curious as to whether there are any good tethering apps for iOS. I'm currently using the HTC thunderbolt and I tether a lot (via easytether pro). I can even use utorrent on my mbp with it and achieve pretty good speeds. But if this isn't possible with the iPhone I might have to stay with android :(

Check out tether.com. Works for most things, but can be slow.

Does anyone know if there's an extra charge for tethering if you have the Verizon $30/2GB individual plan that existed before the share everything plans?

I had read because of the FCC ruling that Verizon cannot block tethering apps, but does that mean they support the built in tethering facility without additional charge?

Not if you are on the family share plan. If you currently have the old unlimited data plan on Verizon, then it's an addtional $30 a month.

family share was the old plan.

share everything is the new one. I think that's where the confusion is coming from.

The old family share plan was shared mins and unlimited data....but you had to pay extra for tethering plan (mobile hotspot) and it didn't come from your unlimited data, you had a separate pool of data.

The new share everything plan is unlimited talk/text and tiered data, but it allows you to use mobile hotspot from your data pool.

Clarification?

I am on an old Alltel plan through verizon with my parents and spouse (900 talk minutes, friends and family). Up to now, no data plan.

I have purchased the iPhone 5 subsidized with 2yr renewal of that old plan, and added on their base 2gig $30 data plan.

Will I get to tether my iPhone to my ipad1 without having to add on that additional "hotspot" plan? A lot of discussion with the folks who have had unlimited data plans for quite some time. Any verification or help would be greatly appreciated.

I was lucky to snag the Tether app when it was available on the app store for a very short time. It works great with my iPhone 5. I do miss the wifi tether on android though.

Which apps were they? I know I got one or two, but I don't remember which ones they were and I wanted to try to get one to work.
