New Zealand's TechDay.co.nz claims to have exclusive date on the New Zealand launch date for the iPhone 5.
Now, with fans clamouring for news of the iPhone 5, Techday has learned from a source within Apple that the device will be launched here in New Zealand on October 9.
Early October has been the recent rumor consensus on when the iPhone 5 might actually become available to customers. There has also been talk of a late September launch.

TechDay.co.nz hasn't been the source of any previous Apple rumors, so we can't tell if they are trustworthy. October 9th falls on a Sunday, which seems a strange launch day. Last year's iPhone 4 launch was on a Friday in New Zealand. We've posted it on our iOS blog for interest.

will most likly be a friday, like last year.
and with the ipad 2...

and will be in line with AU Launch

some people need to check their facts :p

'A contributor' has a 'source'. Unlikely, but they're sticking by their guns according to Twitter.

I highly doubt that's true as everything is shut down here on Sunday. :p

That's not quite true, there are plenty of Apple resellers and Vodafone Stores open on Sunday. However, given TechDay's pretty questionable history I wouldn't put too much faith in the report (other than a guess that could be coincidentally correct).

Sunday release doesnt make much sence. Even if was an international release, then it would be Sunday in USA the next morning.

Has apple ever done a major product release on a Sunday?

EXCLUSIVE: iPhone 5 to launch on September 31th ... oh wait

Umm, from memory the iPhone 3 was released there first (because of its position on the international date line)

No, they always release it in the big markets first (US, UK, France & Germany). Others follow weeks after

Don't be fooled!! I spoke my mate, Steve ;) and he told me Iphone 5 is not coming until 2012, April 1st..! 100%

I'm from New Zealand. All big chains are open but with shortened hours and less staff. But I agree it's a stupid day for launch

We were first, aside from the US. I think he/she meant first aside from the US. From memory its usually US and 20 or so other countries a few weeks later. But I could be wrong

Why would they launch the new phone first in New Zealand?:D

Because the better behaved sibling will get the iPhone first; not the one that calls Jony Ive a pom :p

+1 although NZ isn't really a sibling, more of a distant cousin due to NZ not really being related to Britian as much anymore

Speculators, Analysts, whatever. How do these guys get paid?

Kiss your wife goodbye, go downstairs to your basement, get on your computer in your 'office' and make guesses at what is coming next from Apple?

Sunday makes sense. When launching on Fridays, Vodafone screws up the launch and it doesn't happen until Monday. By launching on a Sunday, Vodafone can only mess it up by one day! :p

You're blatantly incorrect, the iPhone 3GS launched in New Zealand first. Do some googling.

Actually, you're incorrect; the 3GS was launched in the US in June and NZ in July. The 3G, on the other hand, was in NZ first.
