Ok, well I kept track of the reports on the iPad 2 since around November, and almost every single report was wrong. Their predicted release date, what was going to be different with the look, and the features on it- it was all wrong. And I did read from numerous different sources, they are all different regarding the next iPhone and the next iPad. I personally think all those reports are to get people excited and to keep waiting, because until Apple announces it, you really know nothing, no matter what you read.

iPhone 5-you may wait for a couple of months.

iPad3-you will see it next year.

This is like comparing apples to oranges.
Or tablets to phones.
Better: hypothetical tablets to hypothetical phones.

I realize how crazy this thread is, but I'm going to give the OP a serious answer:

If you own an iPhone 4 get an iPad 2 (or if pigs start flying this Fall, an iPad 3)

If you have an iPhone 3GS or below (or no iPhone at all) get an iPhone 5.

In my opinion, a smartphone is completely necessary nowadays and you will be a more productive person because of it.

As an owner of an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2, I've concluded the iPad is a toy to me. It can't do enough and I'm going to be replacing it with a MacBook Air, but only because I could use the money to go towards a FULL COMPUTER, and I currently don't have a very good one.

If you have a good computer, and an iPhone, then yeah, I could say you might enjoy the iPad and it might be worth your money. Otherwise, no. An iPad should be your last priority.

Tough decision to make.. Someone help me out!

It will be an impulse buy for me. which one to pick? Only one..

Not an impulse buy if you're planning it months in advance.

Impulse buy would be going to the store for a toothbrush and coming out with an iPhone/iPad with no prior planning on purchasing the item.
