I really appreciate the effort, but I explained it incorrectly. I guess what I meant to say was: edit the desktop wallpaper down to 640x1136 and add the translucent white bar to the top like in the 640x960 wallpaper.

Any ambient/abstract ones? Maybe a nice texture or subtle blur? I don't like all these full photo ones, they will usually look ridiculous when all your home screen icons block out 80% of them.

I move all my icons to the right so I have a blank home tab. I have no icons on my screen

It might be, but I don't see why if people know about it, they don't do it. Everyone who knows how to do it should have a blank screen. I mean it's personal preference at the end of the day but IMO it's the only way to take full advantage of that beautiful display. What's the point of having a great wallpaper if your icons cover it.

It can be tedious if you have a lot of apps like I do, because you have to move them individually, and if you turn your phone off/back on, you have to do it over again, but it's still worth it to me. You just drag your apps to the blank page on the right, you move every page you have one slot over to the right, so then you're left with a blank home page. Then, to access your apps, you just slide to the right, and there they are.

There's a few that you may be interested in on 640x1136wallpaper.com. It's a pretty neat site that appears to be designed for use on the iPhone. It looks a bit strange on a computer, but it fits the mobile device very well.

there's a section called 'backgrounds' that has images like these:

I'm curently using the last one on my iPhone4... a little busy for a background, but a gives really cool 3D effect behind the icons.
