So when i try to power on my Iphone 5 - the apple symbol comes up - sits for about 10 seconds or so then the phone turns back off. . .

this has only been happening for 2 days now. . .

any ideas?

I have had the phone for several months now and have had no issues before two days ago. It was updated last week, <maybe the end of last week>.

Thanks for the help guys!

Just plug it to iTunes and see if it restores.
If not and it gives you an error and wont stay on then bring it to Apple to have it replaced.

Try different cables, outlets and computers. Also hold power and home button until you see connect to iTunes screen on your iPhone. You can try that when you are not connected to your computer and also when you are connected to see if iTunes pops up and recognizes your iPhone. Let us know how it goes.
