iphone 5 wont sync

i just got an iphone 5 (still not registered) and im trying to sync it to itunes so i can put my music on it, but every time i sync it it just starts charging and itunes doesnt recognise my iphone 5

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes & I would also shut down the computer completely (not just a reboot).
You could also try another USB port on the computer as well.
