What bothers me is that we will basically have the iPhone 4 design for 4 years

I'm disappointed by the keynote to be honest.

Was there a single thing/feature/aspect that wasn't already leaked or believed to be almost a certainty before the reveal?

Good question. I didnt' see every leak so the 720p front-facing camera sounds cool to me.

as do the updates to the rear camera and app.

looks like they've incorporated microsofts photosynth app lol

Only thing I'm very pissed off about is that I got an iPhone 4 in April 2011 and they won't even given me a discounted upgrade.

Hah, not according to Apple... or their legal team.

Legit question cause I don't know the detail:

Did Apple cite the shape of the samsung phones as part of the lawsuit? I recall certain functionalities and icon shape/designs being key points... but did they really say that samsung copied the shape/design of the physical phone?

I like some of the updates that they did, but not enough to warrant buying it. My biggest thing was having a bigger screen both in length and width, and maybe if I saw them side by side it would not seem as bad as in my mind it is, but truthfully, I think I will jump on the android bandwagon for now. Just to experience something new. My wife of course will stay with her 4s, and my 14/yo will enjoy getting rid of her 3g and taking my 4s. Plus I will be able to track her.

And when I get sick of android and Apple is offering something more substantial, I will come back.

I really was hoping for something more, and foolishly pretending that these "leaks" were fake. I miss the WOW factor.

Yes sir... apple won the claim that they own the exclusive rights to devices shaped like rectangles with round corners.

***** apple for playing the market that way, it's not protecting, it's trying to stymie competition and make up for their own failures.

Even though the hardware is exactly like the leaks, I really like it. That said I find it pretty disappointing that they didn't show any OS level improvements that take advantage of the larger screen (other than a 5th row of icons, which I find comical was even brought up as a reason for the larger screen in the keynote). As an iOS 6 dev member I'm pretty bummed to not see anything new outside of the beta.

Here's hoping we'll have an interesting "one more thing" at the end of the keynote.

i'm joining the...

... disappointed crowd. It's a nice enough phone for sure. But am I excited about it? Nope.

I love critics.

I'd like to see (or even hear a description) of something that one would deem a "better" design. There's only so many ways to shape a cell phone...

Well, if i'm good at it i would become a smartphone designer and producer not an oilman. It's their job to give "wow" factor each release to every customer around the world if they want to get their money.

The hardware? Not a big bump, linear as the OS design, you still have to tap each app instead of having real time multitasking like widgets.
The battery? 10 friggin mAh increase? Yeah the processor maybe more efficient, the OS maybe the same. But the Ip5 is longer than the 4S and 10 mAh increase is all they can do?
The OS? you know how fixated they are thinking that OS for the phone or the ipad should not look much different as the OS for macbook. They should start develop and design new OS for the phone and the ipad, especially the iphone.

Smartphone means multitasking, more real time information on screen = better. You are being mobile, doing your work or study and 1 peek to your phone screen wouldn't it be great to get much information from it?

Example a businessman who is being on a meeting, listening but feeling a bit boring, so 1 peek to the phone it would be great to see the email topic that he got on the top left of the screen, meanwhile stock price information on the top right. Message from the wife on the middle screen, voice recording status from the meeting on the bottom left and tiny reminder list on the bottom right. That all information on screen without having to tap each app and then go back to home screen, scroll and tap another.
That is the future, you define the phone, ultimately not the other way around. Helping you getting more information than just sitting on the desk or your hand as a status symbol or decoration.

Is it me or does it look like iTunes has had a bigger upgrade than the iPhone?

That's exactly what I was thinking. They upgraded the free software more than the cash cow phone. Definitely disappointed. Two years they have been working on this and that's all they could come up with??

This should be considered another variant of the 4...and we are stuck with this for another 2 yrs. I think I see Google stock going up...
