Why is there no iPhone 5C in 32GB or 5S in 64GB? My girlfriend's birthday is coming up and she wants the iPhone 5S (as she loves the design) but has a large music library. We want to do Verizon EDGE, but the 5S in 64GB is nowhere to be found, unfortunately. If its been discontinued, that was such a foolish move.

I loved the iPhone 5C form factor and want to get one as a backup phone. Of course I only see 8GB on Apple's site now. I need at least 32GB. Where is that model???

Please help?

Yep both have been discontinued. Apple traditionally does this every year when a new model is released, price cut and 8GB storage option only. This year was a little different as they kept the 16 and 32 5S and the 5C got the drop to 8.

Your best bet is to scour Amazon or eBay for brand new ones. Carrier stores, 4 months later have either sold their existing stock or had to send them back by now.

Wow. Such a shame. Terrible move by Apple. The iPhone 5S/5C is the perfect size, too.

I have an unlocked 5C 32GB sitting around. I have been too lazy to sell it but now it sounds like it might be an easy sell if its discontinued. Sorry, its off topic to what you were asking but maybe there are people like me who might sell you one as your backup?

This isn't new, last year's line up was iPhone 4s 8GB, iPhone 5c 16 and 32 GB, and iPhone 5s 16, 32, and 64GB.

Then what this year's lineup be? I mean after Fall 2015? iPhone 5S 8GB, iPhone 6/6+ 32,64, iphone 6/6S+ 32/64/128?

The iPhone 5S can't go away, its too valuable.

I think it might be:

5S 16GB
6/6+ 16/64GB (They don't have a 32GB version and I highly doubt they will create one)
6S/6S+ 32/64/128 (Hopefully Apple finally drops the 16GB as its useless)

But i think its more for marketing, people associate lower capacity with cheaper price automatically --- lets face it not everyone is good at calculations or spend enough time to calculate their cost over 2 year down he road, they want lowest capacity because they think its cheap -- does that make sense?

They make more money on 64GB/128GB iPhone / iPad than they do on 16GB anyway, so this year I guess they will balance the sheets of their profit portfolio's since 64GB selling > 16GB and introduce a 32GB as entry model as it might cost them a dollar or two more vs 16GB......-- I personally know at least 50 people that have purchased 64GB/128GB over 16GB this year alone because they found that the 16GB got full too quick given you only get about 11.xx GB now on the 6/6+.

lastly, I would recommend checking out eBay deals, you might find a brand new iPhone 5S 64GB, they do have overstock sellers dumping inventory every now and then with full warranty and all.

I bought a new 5S - 16GB this year, and truthfully it is fulfilling my needs, however, I sure would have spent some extra $$$ for a 64GB if it had been available to me at the time.:)

I personally think/wish/hope there will be a 4 inch 6S Mini, as a the mid tier model. It will probably have A8 instead of the A9 which will presumably be in the 6S. Or maybe they can just put an A8 into the 5S.

For those who prefer one handed use the 5S is still a great phone :)

A lot of the Apple Resellers have them. According to Best Buy site the 64GB is on sale for $299. 32GB is for $199. You can also check Target or any other retailer.

Can you buy the phone and then change your plan? Or just go with the Verizon family plan with the unlimited talk and text.

I don't think 32 is coming back, the difference in price between the 16 and 32 is less than a hundred now. I just hope they'll at least get rid of the 8 GB. Also I'm sure 16 GB always sells most, it's a hundred dollars cheaper. People not installing iOS 8 because of space could get them to start including more than 16 though.

Flash memory is so cheap now and apple is even cheaper to still have 16GB at base model.

Just make it 64GB and 128GB. People would still buy because of IOS.

Not really, because they would rather you buy the latest phone, the iPhone 6. It might come as a surprise but people wanting the older phones on new contracts are now a pretty small market. Apple cut production on older devices offering smaller storage options in order to give people a straight up choice. Pay less and have a lesser phone or pay standard price and have the latest and greatest. Apple get a lot of stick for the way they phase out and introduce new products but people forget a minor detail more often than not. They are a company in the business to make money while offering consumers a choice.

If your girlfriend doesn't like the bigger devices, then its either the second-hand market or a refurbished model from a third party seller. My wife hated the size of the 6 when she first upgraded, but strangely enough this gets forgotten the more the device is used. The 6 Plus is different because its size is always going to be bordering on intrusive for some. Get your lady to try handling someone else's iPhone 6 and see if she thinks she will be able to adapt. The 5S won't be around forever remember. It might be annoying for you because there is the price jump if she likes it. ;)

When I found out apple was making the 6 bigger I hated the idea at first but then after I really thought about it didn't bother. Having the 6 since launch and I really don't notice it. I see people with the 5s/5c and it just seems to small now. I love my 6 way way way way better battery, better resolution, better camera, noticeable faster, the list goes on and on. If you are doing the edge get the 6 you will thank yourself in the long run.

I understand your pain.
I wanted to buy a new phone for my wife and she would have like to have an iPhone. Unfortunately, in Belgium the 5c has only been available with 8gb since the start. For the 5s, 16gb you have to pay 600€ which is very expensive considering the usage she will be doing.

In the end, i purchased a Moto G 4G for less than half the price of the 5c.

It is all about marketing.
It is about marketing and making money, but its also about persuading people to keep up to date with the technology they are developing. If people could just keep a device for 3 or 4 years and this became a trend, Apple and every other tech company would lose money, and we wouldn't see such a need to push new devices into the market. Thankfully new devices are selling well and it shows demand is still healthy.

No, it is all about making money. If people preferred the 5S over the 6, they would of course sell that instead. But people want the newest bling to send txt messages and check Facebook.
Of course it is about making money! Apple is one of the best companies on earth to do so. The is nothing wrong with making money, do not listen to your nutty liberal socialist teachers!

Where is the heck do you think all this money came from that is looked down on by so many! It is what made America GREAT! If we do not do something to bring manufactoring back into America the middle class will just continue to get poorer. This country excelled when we made things, now we just consume!

To bring manufacturing back to places like America they need the companies to lower their profit expectations and I can't see that happening. People expect to be paid a relative wage and American citizens are not going to work for £2 or $2 an hour like in China. The other alternative is to drastically increase the cost of the products and hope consumers don't mind paying a $250 premium to have their iPhone's 'made in USA'. As long as manufacturing and labour is cheap, the big boys will go and increase their profits. Its sad, but Apple are like the rest and if I owned the business I would be like that too.

Our country also needs to lower it's tax expectations and that will not happen with our current administration

Why?
Because of upsell.

Apple makes the best margins on the newest iPhone models and wants everyone to buy the newest. They throw a bone with 5S and 5C models being still on sale, but they sure do not want to enable these models to even come close to being satisfactory for anyone but the least demanding fringe of the customer base.
