Not surprising. It replaced the 5 which would have been dropped this year had they kept it when the 5s came out. It probably gives them space to continue to manufacture the 6 and 6 plus on top of the 6s and 6s plus. I almost expected them to drop the 6 plus, but they kept it.

My mother-in-law wants one, she has no need for all the gimmicks that have been added to the phone in recent years. She also has arthritis and I've heard many people speak positively regarding the ease in how one can hold the iPhone 5c.

Currently she's using an iPhone 4, which is showing it's age. We don't all need the latest and greatest.

They're going as cheap as chips, on eBay, and still run well with the latest software. I'm finding mine a good business phone.
They are fair by today's standards, but by next year they will likely not be supported by the latest versions of the OS.

Why not get a 5s then?

And no launch of the 6C. Looks like the C line is a thing of the past.

If my 5 ever kicks it, I guess the 5S is my only other option now ...

My fingers are still crossed for a Spring launch of a magical new 4" device though. The watch did a good job of diluting the interest on these android flagship announcements, so it's not the worst idea to have a device launch then.

3D touch is about the only thing that intrigued me about the 6S, so when my fantasy phone escapes from my dreams and into reality, I hope it sports that tech too:p

my only regret about the 5c, is that I didn't get the Lime Green Ford Fiesta to go with it.

I also have a 5 and was not crazy about the size increase with the 6. But I'm coming around to it. I've gotten a better sense of the size of the 6 in the Apple Store where they don't have all the visible security measures attached to the phones like the carriers and Best Buy do. It's easier to see how it fits in your hand. I haven't tried to pocket one yet, but I think it'll fit at least for walking around. Sitting is another issue.

The 5s is a decent phone, but it's just not enough of an upgrade for me, especially with Apple Pay and other new feature available.

Perhaps consider the 5s?

I got my mom a 5s, since it was (and continues to be) the lightest iPhone on the market - she doesn't have arthritis but a bad wrist on her right hand, so 112g was a huge consideration.

Also the 5s will likely be supported a few more iOS versions beyond the 5/5c, since the chipset in the 5s is a much more powerful 64 bit processor. Its a lot faster than the 5/5c and not too far off in power from the iPhone 6/6+, which were the flagship iPhones until the 6s announcement.

I know price may be the issue - but then why not go for the 5? It is also 112g, lighter than the 5c, the same processing power...but if price is a factor, the iPhone 5 tends to be cheaper than the 5c both online and in the second hand market

I'm just saying - if arthritis is a concern, then go with a lighter device. It can make a difference in day-to-day activity. The lightest iPhones are still the 5 (not 5c) or 5s. The 5c is heavier, at 132g (closer to the weight of the 4)
