It becomes a problem after about a week. You could try a thin piece of screen protector material or a case to prevent that.

Same thing happens to EarPods..

There is a minimal gap between the phone casing and the sim tray cover, so of course grease and crap is going to collect in there. It is a pure white phone, so anything slightly off white is going to contrast the beautiful finish. It's not a big deal IMO.

You can't really go by the store models anyway. People are nasty and don't wash. I like to keep my hands very clean.

You must have a dodgy phone, because the sim tray on my 5c is completely flush with the casing. If I run my finger down the side, all I feel is the hole for the sim removal tool.
It's not "dodgy" - this doesn't effect the performance of the phone in any way, nor does it really effect anything. It's a minor cosmetic issue that has NOTHING to do with how clean your hands are. I wash my hands all the time. My yellow 5c has the dark ring around the sim tray.

Perhaps not coincidentally, my sim tray is slightly recessed. I'm betting that most of the ones that are slightly recessed are the ones collecting scum around the edge while the flush ones will not be so likely to do so. My wife's blue 5c does not have this problem - and her sim tray is perfectly flush.

Yeah sure I'll try post a pic now :).
If my camera ever opens on mac.

Sorry if the pics are big!

looks fine to me, I think you never had a white piece of tech... spaces get filled w/ all kinds of stuff and white just makes it more noticeable .

Yeah that's true. My iPad is white but there's no sim tray or anything where it could collect dust/dirt/whatever it is like that.
