Nobody wants 4K. I'll be very disappointed if Apple does this.

And so says Apple's unofficial PR representative sent to calm down its users who are getting tired of the lack of innovation and stagnation on Apple's part.

That's what you say now, but when Apple finally implements this in the iPhone 7 on September 2016 you will wowed, as if you had not heard of that feature/capability before.

Apple will get 4K 3 years after the rest of the phone manufacturers.

Deal with it. With the iPhone you get lower hardware.

It's still with 1GB RAM and dual cores when other phones have quad cores, 20Mpx cameras and 3GB RAM.

If you don't like it buy an Android.

One can be an Apple fan and still complain.

That doesn't make sense. It's not like you'll have to use it even if it comes with it. I'm sure there would be a 1080p option. Just like the Note 3 also has a 60fps 1080p option.

No chance lol

Goodbye sweet battery life
Goodbye sweet memory
Goodbye sweet uploads (space + bandwidth)

would be cool, if they had the space, 4K takes a lot of space, it wouldn´t be practical unless apple provided some sort of expansion to storage, which besides icloud storage is not going to happen.

Aren't they rumored to introduce a 128GB model?

Never new we said hello to these things. iPhone battery life sucks and the paltry 1gb memory is so 3yrs ago.

Yes they are, but that may not be enough for storing that much video, still you could get some 4k love, but not much. Besides the iPhone display wont be able to take advantage of said resolution and 4k sets are off the roof on pricing, so why bother?

the resolution is awesome (a lucky (or rather with to much money to waste) friend owns one and has invited me over to see it)), but nowhere near the average consumer´s reach yet.

4K is not practical for anything yet, going to take a few years to catch on.

Let's start w/full 1080p adoption first, shall we? (front & back hardware/software/airplay/facetime/streaming)

I think the 5S's main selling points will be the fastest processor speed of any other smart phone (like the 5 when it came out) and enhanced security with fingerprint sensor and new lockout feature, camera enhancements, AirDrop.

Android phones have high specs, but still lag like crazy. My dad had a quad-core Android tablet, which was practically unusable due to the lag! iOS does not require quad-core processors. Come to think of it, why would I need a quad-core processor in my phone?!

You do know that the higher the megapixel, it does not necessarily mean better picture quality?

People see higher numbers and instantly think "better"

No one cares about real world usage, they just care that their phone has higher numbers than yours.

That doesn't matter. The iphone display can't output 1080p right now yet the camera shoots 1080p video. It looks great and play back fine on the screen.

Remember also that what matters right now is that you capture it. In 5 years when you own a $500 4K TV, you'll be happy you recorded your events in 4K back then. Even if you didn't have a way to display them at full quality.

Let's also consider that Apple is beyond 1080p already with the iPad retine and macbook pro Retina displays. It's only a matter of time before the imac also goes retina (probably at 4K) and the MacPro is already touted to push multiple 4K displays.

So there are already displays Apple makes that can take advantage of the higher than 1080p resolution.

Let's also not forget (and I keep saying this) that downsampled 4K to 1080p will look better than straight up 1080p from an iPhone. You're giving the video more resolution to begin with. many will argue that due to the bayer pattern sensor you really need to start with 4K to get better 1080p to begin with. That is exactly what Canon does with their Cinema line of cameras. They start with an 8MP sensor to downsample to proper 1080p.

Lumina, with its 40 mpp camera may just be crazy enough to grant your wish.

Dual flash is innovative enough. Apple should not innovate too much at a time, otherwise the competition would start to fear them.

I want 4K but not on my phone! The memory it would take and the processor to handle the data.

Someone is not doing their math!:p

People tend to forget that the iPhone 5S is (now get this) "a PHONE". lol
4K video on a phone? Really?
Think about that for a moment. The video chipset, compression format, etc. All those things take up physical space. Not to mention how much drive space do you think a 30 second video will take up?

No, this is a phone with other features. Not a video camera with a phone.

I'm not trying to be snarky, but I don't think this idea from the OP was thought through before posting.

Lol, what do you mean have an iPod in a phone? It's a phone Steve, not a music player!

Who knows what Apple could be building into that next gen CPU/GPU of theirs. The fact that they design their own silicon means they could potentially do things others are not.

H.265 was already ratified earlier this year and we've been told to start expecting hardware encoders/decoders by the end of this year/start of next year. Considering that Apple was one of the earliest companies to support H.264, with Steve Jobs making a big deal about it in a keynote, I don't think it's far fetched to believe Apple will be one of the first to jump on H.265. So aside from being 40-50% more efficient in space saving, it also supports UHD 4K.

The camera app doesn't have a switch for HD and Full HD. So it would require a switch for 4K recording, and most people would just record everything in 4K and start complaining that their phone fills up very quickly.

4K recording is a very very very niche feature, that would bring more downsides that upsides.
