One of my friends at work wants to buy a GSM Unlocked iPhone 5S for Verizon. If its unlocked, will it work on Verizon? I couldn't remember if they were backwards compatible since LTE is GSM based and the 5S has LTE. I told her before she clicks buy I would ask here because this community is better than Apple support 😀

I might be wrong. I thought I read somewhere that as long as she already has Verizon service she can pop in her SIM card from her old phone in to the iPhone. Of course if it's not a nano sim she would have to cut it down. If she doesn't have Verizon they won't activate it.

NO. She needs to buy a Verizon phone. A GSM phone will not work (I tried for a friend when selling my 5S)

Thanks everyone! Ill let her know! She wanted either a 5C or 5S under $160 or so and saw it on Groupon and asked me. Ill relay it to her to choose a different one haha
