This is a leather which has not been treated or had any protection applied to it. It's going to get dirty. It's going to show grease marks from your skin. And its going to show wear and tear
Some people may like it while others don't
There are leather cleaners you can buy also

The point is, Apple knows how batpoop OCD a portion of it's userbase is (see: "scuffgate" "bendgate" "myscreenistoowarmgate" "ithasascratchthattotallywasntmyfaultgate") and was grossly negligent in releasing a product that won't stay cosmetically perfect for, well... forever.

Even though you'd assume people would realize glass breaks, stuff bends if you sit on it, and things get dirty, all you have to do is jump on the internet and those preconceptions disappear faster than enthusiasm on Galaxy launch day.

A friend of mine has a tan 5S leather case on his. I keep telling him it's a waste to have a case anyway (naked... period), but I must admit, it looks pretty bad ass with the natural wear.

Can you make it look like real ass instead of bad ass if you treat it like absolute garbage? Sure. But that's true of any case. My wife's friend has an otterbox that looks like it's been through a war.

It's not the cases fault, it's the user.

Unless the user spends money on an Apple product. Then it's APPLE's fault.

It's pretty funny really.

:apple:

Returned my red case a few days after launch. One of few things I ever returned.

exactly. every time i take the cover off i forget how nice it looks.. but i must protect it :)

I know I sadly have an iFrogz Breeze that I keep on mine. I hate cases, but I also am OCD. I almost got the Apple case because it is not so big, but I am now glad I didnt

I'm not OCD but I'm protecting my iPhone to preserve resale value since I'm changing iPhone every 12-15 months ...

Yes, this too. I upgrade with every launch. I have some the 3G. Minus the iPhone 5 which I did buy, but returned.

This on top of me being OCD equals my iphone being pristine.

Black Case

I'm guessing you have made your mind up and sorted out a new case or not by now, but I thought I would add to the tally.
I have had my Black Leather Case from Apple since I picked up my 5S, on launch week. It still looks great and feels great and has protected it well from a couple of falls :)

I had the tan/brown leather case on my black 5 before ordering a Spigen Saturn. I gave the Apple case to my wife! It looks a mess now. Not saying she did it as it was showing wear before I passed it along. I've since gone back to an Apple case but in black instead. Still looks like new after a couple months.

My Black has worn in pretty well, you just can't tell due to it being black. Wouldn't be happy with any other lighter color, I don't think they "age" well, they look cheap worn in to me.

I ordered an iPhone 5s leather case from Apple, and after a week of use the case is horrible, it has a darker tones of blue on the edges and it feels like I had it for months. Is that normal?

I didn't do anything other than carry it in my front pocket for a few days.

I ended up returning that red 5S leather case. It was so hard to take off. I ended up buying a gold mophie battery case to go with the gold 5S for a family member.

I've got a genius appointment today for my 5S with battery issues. I have a red case, which is now not worn but scruffy I would say. Is it worth mentioning this to them and try for a replacement? Trouble is it was a present so don't have any receipt etc. I'm in UK. I presume it was bought at an Apple store as they only sell (product) red at Apple store but couldn't be sure.

Worth asking? What should I ask/say?
Cheers

Why? You want them to make a crappy case that wears out in a few weeks?

Yes. You nailed it! That is exactly what I want Apple to do. . .
:)

Or, just perhaps- I like the black version of the iP5 case and would like my 4S to have an equally good fitting case.

I have the blue one like yours, and it just looks horrible now compared to how it was when I first go it.

In general, all leather products change their color slightly. It gets a darker hue after a while. After two months after the purchase of a leather cover from belenty my cover got a darker color too .....but it's even nicer than the original.
