64G 5S on Verizon , I Drive the same route everyday, I have 2 places I lose signal and drop a call. Both places I dropped a call sooner with the 5S plus dropped a call in 2 places I've never dropped a call with my 5 . 5S is fast, battery life improved, signal worse, no doubt.... Disappointed ......

Hmm signal on my 5S seems equal if not better than my 4S, haven't noticed any change in quality and haven't had any dropped calls. And I haven't seen anyone on here complaining about reception either...

did you by any chance get a new case?

Maybe you will need to exchange it. I have mine set up to display dBm instead of bars. Signal strength on my 5s is the same as my 5.

I am finding in my home on my 5s with 4G on we get 1-2 bars phone reception, 4G off get 3-4/5 bars. This is Australia though. Hence we just use 3G.
Also my wifes iPhone 5 is the same.

Tried with the same case I has on my 5 & with no case. Reception isn't poor, just not as good as my 5 which I had for a year. Reception is spotty in Rural Upstate NY, going backwards in reception is unacceptable for me.

I'm experiencing the opposite. Signal is slightly better on the 5s when compared to my old 5. The 5 would often show No Service briefly in my house and I'm yet to see that with the 5s.

I can't speak for Australia, but here in US LTE signal strength will, in general, appear to be weaker than 3G. In reality, a signal strength of -105 dBm on LTE is equivalent to -90 dBm on 3G. So 2 bars on LTE is as good as 3 to 4 bars on 3G.

Call Apple and have them run a test on the phone and they can determine if it provisioned wrong - I switched from an i5 without issues and then got a gold i5s and started dropping calls left and right - called Verizon and rep said phone is defective. So I called Apple and the senior rep ran a test on my phone and then called Verizon within 2 hours my trouble ticket was complete and not one dropped call since.

It could be the phone. I have not noticed any difference between my old AT&T iPhone 5 and my "Verizon" iPhone 5s that I use with an AT&T SIM.

I heard the following:

5 better built
5 better speaker (something about the magnet)

My iPhone 5 is better than each of the prior models, since the original in my personal experience. I bought my wife a 5S, which had very poor connectivity. Apple replaced it, the replacement is improved yet it's still not right. Back to the genius bar where after testing it as they did the first, they claim it's within normal specs. I escalated to the mgr who stood firm that it's within specs. Perhaps Apple is becoming less interested in keeping happy otherwise satisfied customers loyal.

You also have to remember that bars or dBm on the iphone 5 and 5s, relate to LTE strength or 3G strength for data with Verizon, and not voice. Voice still uses 1x.

I've noticed my 5s holds on to reception better than my 5 but seems to jump from 4G to E much easier than my 5.

I have seen the opposite, one location the 5 (and 4s) would struggle and drop calls the 5s holds the call without any problem, I can consistently do this.

I heard just the opposite.

Same here, and its also my personal experience, I went back to a 4s from the 5 because of build issues on the 5 and everyone complained that it sounded like I was in a tunnel when calling out on the 5 ( 2 separate handsets).Sound quality is much better on the 5s.

In use the 5 has been my least favourite (recent) handset.
