I agree, signal is not as good. I never had dropped calls on ATT on my 5, but have on my 5s, and even exchanged it for a replacement and same issues. Local Apple store says they've had an increase in the number of complaints.

----------

I don't understand... if you're having an issue why come here and post a thread about it? Go to apple and exchange, return your phone. Seems like a no brainer to me.

You really need to find a different site if you're going to reply with responses like this. In several other recent forums you basically say the same thing, you chastise people for expressing concern over the performance of their product, as if they don't have a right to expect it to work.

If you don't like reading people's issues, try a different site, like eBay or Amazon.... This is a community forum where we welcome feedback, comments, and opinions, regardless of if we agree with them.

I think this is one of the worst Apple product launches ever. I hope they learn that launching 2 different phones at the same time and not allowing preorders on the best models was completely stupid.

My 5S just loves to go from 4G to GPRS no inbetween here in the UK. With my 4 it would be on 3G for most of the time...

What network are you on?

I would be willing to bet on EE, there are many reports of them decommissioning 3G sites wholesale.

Some of their subscribers who are still on 3G are getting quite angry with the 3G degradation leaving them with only GPRS in some areas.

Yep. EE. And I'm London outskirts too... Where have you heard those reports?

All over the net, What Mobile magazine, Mobile and Gadget, MoneySavingExpert, quite a few angry customers complaining at how 3G signal is disappearing leaving only GPRS if the customer isn't 4G enabled.

Better for me

Where I work I barely get 3G or 4G 1 bar. Now it's on LTE 3 bars and no problem connecting anymore. So for me the 5S on ATT is a huge improvement. Very happy with the battery not running down anymore trying to keep a connection going all day long.

Funny coincidence, just went on MSE for a browse, and this was posted today.

After Orange UK and T-Mobile UK merged and introduced free roaming between the two networks in late 2010, customers of both networks enjoyed improved coverage, i.e. two networks instead of one previously. However, soon after the rebranding to EE in late 2012 along with closer integration of the two legacy networks, the following new problems have arisen:

EE has been decommissioning transmitters, supposedly where it has duplicate coverage from the two legacy networks. However, not only has it removed duplicate coverage but it has also removed coverage that existed before the merger, creating new coverage blackspots which never existed previously. Examples of places where I experience this are at home, the platform at my local train station and several parts of the City of London - not exactly a backwater.

In order to remedy some of these new coverage blackspots for existing customers, EE has been sending out free "Signal Boxes", a femtocell similar to Vodafone's SureSignal. However, these Signal Boxes are unreliable and often display a red light, indicating no service, until they are rebooted. I have two Signal Boxes at home, and both suffer these symptoms independently of each other at different times.

Since early 2013, EE appears to have been degrading 3G coverage in London so that only 2G (GPRS/EDGE) is available in some areas where there was previously 3G coverage. One could guess that this is deliberate in order to encourage Orange and T-Mobile customers to upgrade to EE's unreasonably surcharged 4G services.

It is often impossible to make and receive calls, even where there is a strong signal. In such circumstances, customers with 4G can use data but not make and receive calls, because 4G does not support voice calls. This was covered by BBC Watchdog on Wednesday 18th September.

3G data speeds are often unusable, particularly in central London, caused by network congestion and insufficient capacity as a result of a reduced density of transmitters.

Posts by many others in this and other forums demonstrate that these problems are widespread. EE call centre staff appear to be well aware, because some of them volunteer to issue PAC codes.

My friends in other parts of London experience the same problems, particularly in central London.

But that's the point in a discussion forum?

He wasn't discussing, he was blogging about how his 5s doesn't have as good reception as his 5. Where in his OP did he place a nugget to start a conversation? He made a STATEMENT, he didn't ask a question.

Basically he came to MR to complain about his 5s instead of solving his problem. I gave him a way to solve his problem instead of just jumping in and 1. agreeing with him and complaining or 2. defending apple like a rabid dog. If he is unhappy he needs to take his phone back and either exchange it as his might be faulty or return it and get something that works for him.

See above.
PLUS you really need to understand the meanings of the words you use. Chastise: Full Definition of CHASTISE
1. to inflict punishment on (as by whipping)
2. to censure severely : castigate
I in no way chastised anyone. I gave him the options that would solve his problem. You may not like the way I did that but that's your issue not mine.

I agree.... on the micro level anyway. The Aspen Grove apple store was WAY understaffed and it was not a fun day for sure. As far as overall, I don't see why it was such a huge issue other than they produces way to many kiddie iPhones and not enough adult iPhones.

Why so serious?

Why so serious?
Lol trust me, I'm far from serious. Just like to inform those that believe one thing when it's actually another.

I have fun here on MR..... get put in time out a lot and will probably be locked out some time in the near future but I have fun. When someone blogs about something how can you not comment? Others comment too but I guess my personality is a bit dryer than most plus I'm a sarcastic db a lot but I enjoy "playing" with those that feel the need to blog about their life in MR, come and ask silly questions like "what color" or "what size". (I can make the same comment another made and I'll be popped and they wont... I guess I'm labeled now lol) I find these questions humorous yet sad at the same time so I respond in kind. I know some can't handle that, hence all the time outs and most likely ban at some point in the near future. I work nights so believe me, my fellow docs/nurses and I tend to have a very good time "laughing" at some of the folks here on MR. If a person can't make a simple life choice like color or size of phone without asking total stranger about it, how will they get through life.... let's hope they have access to a computer/phone/internet at all times or we'll find them sitting on a street corner with tears all over their phone because they can't ask total strangers on the web what they should have for lunch.

Oh, serious is the LAST word that describes me. Keep on keeping on! :D

How can I get the DBM to show?
DBM?

DBM?

No such thing as my fellow doc/nurse. You're either a doctor or a nurse. Which is it?

To get the dbm to show do this

1.Open the phone and call *3001#12345#* a field test will show up (notice the meter at the top left )the closer the number is to 0 the better the reception

2.press the lock button until the power off slider appears and let go of the power button but Don't power the phone off

3.Press and hold the home button until the test cancels and you are taken back to the home screen the meter should have stayed ...may take a few tries but works on my 5s with latest update

Ok he didn't ask a question. But clearly many people, including yourself, felt like replying thus starting a discussion.

For iOS7, step2 when the power off slider appears use it and power down. When you restart the phone you'll have dbm.

He's a nurse.

Yes at one time I was. Is that a problem for you? Men can't be nurses?

Oh and by the way.... the little squiggly things at the end of the "words" docs/nurses are the letter s. Sometimes that little squiggly means more than one.... as in several Doctors and Nurses.... as in docs/nurses. When you quoted me and asked you seemed to have left those off.... I'm assuming because if you hadn't you'd look pretty silly asking the question as the answer was right there in front of you. I didn't point that out earlier because I didn't want you to be embarrassed but I had to bring it up because you just kept pushing.
Back on topic, I have no reception issues with my 5s when compared to my 5.

Gotta go, I have a pool volleyball game to win.

Uhh okay. The emphasis was on the words "fellow". You said "my fellow docs/nurses". That technically does not make sense.

It's either one or the other. It's either your "fellow doctors" because you are a doctor, or your "fellow nurses" because you yourself are a nurse. Just like a teacher wouldn't say "oh my fellow doctor" or even "my fellow professor". Nah.

Because I was wondering if anyone else was having a issue.... I have 10 Verizon lines with iPhones on them,I'm not on here complaining,I was looking for info.Is this not a Phone Forum?

Update

Little things make a difference . When I posted I had made my drive home without using Bluetooth so the phone was to my ear instead of in my phone holder on my Dash. Thats leads to today,Bluetooth on,in phone holder I had no issues.I actually drove 1/2 mile further into the first dead zone before I lost signal and drove through the second dead zone without dropping a call.Amazing what a difference phone placement makes inside the car.Sorry I stirred the pot,I've always had good reception with my iPhones and panicked thinking reception had regressed without gathering all the information..... Which is why I didn't run to the Apple store for a replacement before trying again on my drive to work. Thanks to all !
